As a team, we're close. To play a team like Notre Dame the way we did, a few different plays, a bounce here or there, and it's a different outcome. Notre Dame could be the most talented team in the country and we controlled half the game. Skill level is no longer an excuse for these guys. That last little bit of the mental game needs to come around. Confidence in the ability to finish off plays is all that is missing.

Maybe I'm exaggerating but it seems like we've never beat these guys, ever, since I started following BG athletics 7 years ago. And we play them 4 times a year! Whatever. Hopefully the tide turns tonight, but I'm not counting on it.

Guess what else I am. A realist, and quality provider of the truth. Even if it hurts.

We can't beat Notre Dame, ever. I don't like it any better than you or anybody else but that's the reality of the situation. We can talk about bounces going one way or the other all they want, but at the end of the day, they continue to have our number no matter the coaches, players, the venue, etc. Hell we could play on the moon and they'd still beat us.

I find it comical that you decided to go after me when the team was winning after 2 periods though. That gave me a laugh.

It's when I saw the post. We did beat Notre Dame last year and could have easily won either game this weekend. The time is coming. As stupid as it may sound to some, what doesn't help is the negative energy from an "it's hopeless" mentality.
Have faith in our team and it the wins will keep coming.

24,
Have you had a chance to watch them play recently? This team's energy and effort are pretty impressive if you've watched the Falcon Icers over the last umpteenth years. Every game, we see it. We could see glimpses of it last year, but this year we are seeing it more consistently. If you were able to watch them play regularly and listen to all of the press conferences, you will see a coach that is VERY driven and VERY focused on what his staff is trying to do with this program. You are starting to hear it in the player interviews as well. On this very young team, 18 (9 freshman, 9 sophomores) of the 26 players on the roster have only played under Bergeron, Schutte and Eigner. You can tell. Last year you could see it coming, but this year you can see the overall "attitude" of their hard work and effort on the ice on a more consistent basis. They "NEVER GIVE UP" and they "NEVER SURRENDER." I'm so proud of this team and how far they've come in such a short time. Hang in there hockey fans, the Falcon Hockey team is on it's way back!! It's not going to happen over night, but it IS happening!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

No shame in losing to a very good ND team, and giving them all they could handle. Close losses to programs like that are as good as wins right now for the morale of the program and the players. I'm curious to see where this team is in January when they have 2-3 months until their belts, I have a feeling they'll be winning some big games. The progress is there and is still continuing, and as long as its moving forward and not backward, I have faith BG hockey will be a nationally recognized team once again.

I agree, but knowing THIS coach, he will NEVER be satisfied with moral victories. PERIOD! I seriously doubt if the players are either. Losing is losing to this coaching staff and this team. Nothing short of winning is acceptable. That said, however, I also know that they are not pleased when they haven't played well, even if they do win. It is because they are constantly setting the bar higher for themselves ("performaning at a high level"), that they are improving and will continue to improve.

Fwiw, I'm pretty thrilled with the "moral victories" against teams like ND!!! :-D

As a former hockey coach myself, they are never acceptable, but I think Bergeron would be honest in saying that the program is probably where it should be right now, competing with top programs. The players can come away feeling positive about this weekend, even if no points were earned.

Agree, they should feel positive, but given the mind-set that he is instilling in them, I doubt if they are feeling positive about two losses, one of which they let slip away. And I'm pretty happy they feel that way!! :-D
