Indians acquire Derek Lowe from Braves for a A-Ball pitcher, pick up Fausto Carmona's 2012 option and decline Grady Sizemore's. Busy day and all good moves in my opinion.

If I'm Detroit...I'd consider taking a flyer on Lady Sizemore. If he's willing to be 4th OF...although if he's healthy he'd be an upgrade in RF over Boesch, who's an upgrade over Young in LF
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Defensive upgrade, you bet, but not offensively. Over either Young or Boesch IMHO.

Surprised they are letting Sizemore walk. Not really disappointed though, that dude was always hurt. Now if they take that money they saved there and go get a Pujols/Fielder, I would be thrilled.

He may not be walking but just "redoing" his contract. No one else will pay him the $9 mil either.

I don't see anyway possible Cleveland could come up with that much cash.Warthog wrote:Surprised they are letting Sizemore walk. Not really disappointed though, that dude was always hurt. Now if they take that money they saved there and go get a Pujols/Fielder, I would be thrilled.

Re: The 2011 Cleveland Indians
The Indians plan on being a player in the Prince Fielder sweepstakes. As for Sizemore, Chris Antonetti personally flew to Washington, state, to meet with Grady and let him know that they weren't picking up the option. I guarantee they try to re-sign him at a much lower amount.
In addition to the small piece given up to get Derek Lowe, the Braves are also picking up $10 million of the $15 million owed to him, leaving the Tribe on the hook for just $5 million.
Did a piece with a blogger from the Tigers who answered five questions I asked him about the Tigers in '11 and the upcoming '12. Take a look!

I didn't say they are going to win the bidding war but they are going to try.
