The wildcat was effective when nobody was running it other than a few teams. It was a way to catch a team off guard and create an extra guy as a RB instead of a QB. Over the past few years every team in america has some form of wildcat and its no longer difficult for the defense to defend it . They know how to defend it , they have film on it and its no just a copy cat package that every team in the world at every level runs. It took the world by storm because nobody knew how to defend it, its now just a gimmick to add another run play. Its no longer deception or anything special.. There are basically no teams now that make the wildcat a big part of the offensive package, 2 years ago teams were living in it.

Reminds me of the spread offense. It was a big difference maker for overmatched teams. But, eventually it became so commonplace that its effectiveness dwindled.sportydude1818 wrote:The wildcat was effective when nobody was running it other than a few teams. Block well and any formation looks like it's unstoppable. Get blown up and no matter running play you choose...you're going to get stomped
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
