Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Ohio simple shredded that Temple defense, just destroyed it. The Bobcats ran and passed through it with ease for most of the game. OU already racked up enough yardage at halftime that Temple averaged for the game and OU put up over 500 yards on them. It was also the third year in a row that Ohio beat Temple when they met for first place too.

OU didn't win anything tonight...but I believe them beating Temple helped BG out. BG wins out and Miami loses 1 more MAC game and we win the East. Obviously, easier said than done. Ohio lost to Buffalo and Ball State so they are definitely beatable.

Right on, Freak. One game at a time, but not only did OU not win anything with this game, it brought BG into the mix again.

I hope you guys are right, I really do, but I don't see it happening for BG. After watching NIU score 63 vs Toledo (on the road none the less) and seeing Ohio simply rip apart the MAC's best defense like that, I don't see us getting past one of these next two teams, let alone both. Especially after what we showed and did at Kent State. We shall see....

I predict we look great against NIU then fall on our faces the following week against OU. We never look like the same team 2 weeks in a row.

Understandable, 33. We simply gave Kent State that game last week and it could bite us in the azz. NIU and OU are beatable but we'll have to bring the effort we had against Temple to win those games. Here is the breakdown for the rest of the year:
BG-NIU, Ohio, @ Buffalo
Ohio-@CMU, @BG, Miami
Temple-Miami, Army, Kent State
Miami-Akron, @Temple, WMU, @Ohio
Kent State-CMU, @Akron, EMU, @ Temple
Miami could easily lose at least 2 more MAC games and seems to have toughest schedule left, followed by BG, IMO. Bottom line, win out and Miami loses and we're in Detroit. Of course if we play like we did at Kent and WMU, forget it.
It comes down to Tuesday night at the Doyt...talk about a must game.

I think the point is that even if BG wins out, it would not be enough to win the East if Ohio didn't beat Temple.

I disagree Kdog...we looked like crap against WVU and WMU 2 weeks in a row.kdog27 wrote:I predict we look great against NIU then fall on our faces the following week against OU. We never look like the same team 2 weeks in a row.

The way the MAC East has gone the last decade, I could see us losing to NIU, then still being in a position to win and get help for a share of the title against Buffalo.

I would rather not even let it come to that point...
Win out and we are where nobody realistically pictured us at in the preseason... playing for the MACC

But Miami is 2-2 MAC so they need to lose at least one more...how about tomorrow night against Akron at Yager?vwfalcon wrote:I would rather not even let it come to that point...

Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Bottom line is, we're still in it. It's November and we are still very much alive in the race to win the MAC East, which is what I think we were all hoping for back in August.
It hasn't been a pretty ride, but we're in a position to get to Detroit.
Let's see if the staff can crank things up a notch and get the Falcons to the MACC game.

Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
They have the two teams they must beat at home, which given the past 3-5 years, might not be a good thing. After what coach said yesterday about the team not being focused and how it will be fixed, I expect something good on Tuesday.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
I'd say that schedule favors Temple quite a bit -- and don't see them losing another game. However, all BG has to do is TIE them and they will bet the nod because BG won the head-to-head meeting.
Clawson came out and took the blame for the Kent loss, which is good since it fell on the coaches to make sure the players didn't assume they were going to win (which they admitted they did, anyway).
I find that part a bit puzzling. How could anyone on this team assume they are going to beat anyone? They haven't played well enough two games in a row to warrant such ego.
Clawson also pointed to how pathetic BG has been on turnovers and in the red zone. What he didn't say was that the red zone struggles have been as much about bad play calling as anything else. Until those coaches accept that what they're doing is NOT working, nothing is going to change.
Knowing how coaches egos tend to be, I'm not optimistic we'll see any real changes when BG next gets into the red zone.
This team has a remarkable opportunity available. It's right in the middle of this race and could find itself playing for a MAC title with just a little more consistency. I hope it happens for them, despite my pessimism.
