But the other thing about even the losses, you can see a team that seems sharper, at least that it knows what it is supposed to be about there. Like they are headed towards the right things just not yet at the same stage of development as ND or FSU.

In other news Benny got a tee shirt!

End of the first.

Nice pp goal tied it. Then a dubious double minor call gives FSU a power play. Some massive whiffs and misses by FSU but BG Killed it. Few minutes later, FSU pulls ahead again.

Lost 5-3. Just a few thoughts about tonight:

- We can't afford to start slow. We don't have the goal scorers to get back into games like that.
- Very chippy game. Two physical teams and things boiled over at the buzzer. Mohler and Shea got a DQ and will have to sit out Friday.
- I didn't think Zacharias looked too bad. I wouldn't mind seeing him get closer to 50/50 chances this week at practice if only to push Hammond.

Now, it is inexcusable for us to have two non-operating Zambonis. That is a basic need to play the sport. That's like asking the soccer team to play on a pitch that's 6" high of grass because all your mowers are broken. We've had a week to either fix the Zamboni or find a replacement in the meantime and that wasn't done. If we're unable to provide a facility that can be relied upon to provide a safe and division one quality ice then we need to consider moving the rest of our games.

The first two goals were just inexcusable. The first was as if they walked around and past anything that could stop them, and just tossed it in. The second goal was about as bad.

They got scrappy as the game progressed, but they didn't seem to have the beef to push past FSU, nor the speed to get around them. I mean they showed some fight, they were in there getting at things. Yet there was just a clear gap at times. Much like the way they looked against ND as I noted. So at once, it's frustrating, yet you still get the sense things could be very different if the young players build-up, and they keep improving.

I was on the way home after the last PK ended, so I missed the end. I can see how this team can claw its way into the circles the FSUs and NDs are in though.

As for the Zambonis? Embarrassing. Hope we didn't have recruits seeing that.

I would say it is nice to see FSU's team enjoying local places downtown during the day. Two coaches I know walked downtown and were on their way back as I shuttled my wee-ones about today.

If you have the $80,000-$100,000 for a new Zamboni your donation will be greatly appreciated. There is ONE full time maintenance employee in the Ice Arena. The backup Zamboni broke down at 5:55 tonight while making ice. The game was delayed so the mechanic from the stadium grounds department had time to get there and try to fix the problem. Tonight was the first he had heard that there was a problem with either Zamboni.

Under-staff and under-fund any building on campus and see what happens.

Nobody is blaming the staff. I think it is just something that has been overlooked.

I wonder how much those little youth hockey kids can pull..........

There was only one person trying to fix the zamboni tonight, and he was the guy who drives it. No one else from the University came over. Unless they were calling the shots from somewhere else. I only saw the guy who drives the zamboni trying to fix the zamboni.

The mechanic from the stadium worked on it. I know, I talked to him. Have known him a long time. They had the doors closed on the Zamboni room so they didn't have an audience (sucks trying to work on things with people over your shoulder). Also so it wouldn't be a distraction to the crowd when it was started up.

They removed the thermostat from the newer one to try and fix the overheating problem (common quick fix). Tried a few rounds on the small ice and thought it could make it. Obviously it didn't. So they turned their attention to the old one and found some problems with the wiring for the fuel pump, fixed it and rushed it on the ice.

If the first one broke last week, why wasn't it fixed before this weekend? Something like that can't happen. Typical of the way things are run around BG Athletics.

Canisius is coming in at the right time.....the team needs some confidence.

Recap and post game interviews:
http://bgsufalcons.com/news/2011/11/5/H ... 14439.aspx

As frustrating as this weekend was (and it WAS!!), I was pleased that that they showed a better effort tonight. Getting two PP goals (0/18 prior to that first one) was huge. Felt bad for Hammond, but was nice to see Zacharias step up. He looked pretty nervous when he started, but settled down. And more importantly, the guys played better in front of him which gave him the chance to settle in (with no warm up, I might add). It's also great to see a coach who won't hestate to take responsibilities for whatever his team is doing, especially when it's not good (*cough* Beckman *cough*)!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Bergeron knows a lot is on him as well. We took the ice with 17 non goalies last night, one less than allowed. And that too many on the ice penalty was absolutely ridiculous.

We can gloss all we want about making strides, playing with heart and energy, and other moral victories and cliches. But the bottom line is that losing 4 in a row at home is totally unacceptable.

This team had better figure it out, and soon, because right now it looks like we're headed down that same painful road as always...those wins early were fine but they came against poor competition in Uconn and UAH. As soon as we hit CCHA play it started going downhill.

What happened to Andrew Hammond this weekend? 9 goals allowed in 2 games? (Wasn't at either of them so I don't know if he started both games)

The Zamboni is like a metaphor for what occurred this weekend. With youth hockey, club, adult hockey leagues, public skates, and figure skaters using that arena, the arena should be able to absorb some of the cost of a new Zamboni. This news will spread quickly in the hockey world, since its such a small group, and I hope just like everyone else that this will not negatively effect our recruitment.

I am glad we were able to get back into game 2. I hope we are able to pull it together next week, I will be in my seats (still a season ticket holder/I give them away), for one game, but win/lose it will be worth it!

Hockey gods please bless our old Zamboni so that it will run next game and clean the ice properly [-o<

Go Falcon Hockey!!!

Agree regarding the zamboni situation! Bergeron also mentioned his concern about it in the press conference. Also agree that if we can get two wins against Canisius, it will go a long way toward much needed team confidence. Unfortunately we won't get any league points for those games, but if we can get things back on track next weekend it will be huge, since we go to Miami the weekend after that.

GO FALCONS!!
SWEEP THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS!!

League points. Somehow I cease to care much about CCHA anything, even if the end of the conference isn't for another couple of seasons. Feels more like warm-up for a new league.
