A perfectly great autumn Saturday

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

What do you know...clear skies, fairly warm temperatures for early November...should be a great atmosphere at the Doyt tonight for our game against Northern Illinois. Big game for BG if they are to remain in the championship chase, no excuse for the crowd not to turn out, hopefully we win and...

Oh wait, that's right, we aren't playing today, it's on Tuesday. **checks Tuesday's forecast - 40% chance of rain...oh boy :x

Thanks again MAC for those midweek night games!

I agree 24, I agree. I'm really not a fan of those midweek games but it seems like half of MAC November games are midweek games. I'm just not a fan of it in any way.

I love the midweek games. I think they are perfect for our conference and our team. If we ever want to grow they are an absolute necessity. And I want to grow.

I used to think the November games were a good idea...I don't now. I refuse to go them...I won't be there on Tuesday, but I will probably be in Adrian, MI on Saturday. I can either hit Adrian College to see the Bulldogs play Alma or swing over to Siena Heights to see the Saints complete their first season of NAIA football against Robert Morris....

I'll be at the Doyt Tuesday...won't miss the game for anything. Supposed to be cloudy and 67 for the high...Taking next Wed night off as well for the OU game. Gotta keep the priorities in line.

Dave Hackenberg echos my sentiments in his Blade column today:

http://www.toledoblade.com/DaveHackenbe ... r-MAC.html

For me, the MAC season ends in October. So much for football existing for the benefit of the students.

Can't say I'm thrilled with having to take the 2 1/2 hr. drive to BG on a Tues. afternoon (we're hoping to leave by 2pm or so).... My BIGGEST complaint is that they're scheduling these games for EIGHT PM starts...at least a 7pm game would be ending around 10 or so, which would allow us to get home by shortly after midnite... now, we're looking at a 1am return AT THE EARLIEST.
Saddest thing was that, except for the Miami-Akron fiasco, the other games were very competitive and entertaining... Too bad the MAC can't seem to crack the Sat. afternoon TV spots. OTOH, So. Cal was on Fri. nite, and an ACC game was played on Thurs. nite too....so we can't totally blame the MAC for this stuff.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

3 of my firends from undergrad are meeting up to watch the game at my house Tuesday. They probably have not watched a BG game in years and are more buckeye fans then anything. It might hurt attendance but it wont hurt exposure.

The exposure on a national level for recruiting both academically and institutionally combined with credibility is worth it in my opinion. Yes, I understand it hurts your local fanbase, casual fans and those within the "State of Bowling Green"; but if you weigh up the support those fans have offered traditionally against the exposure there is no question that playing during the week whenever ESPN tellss us to is the most beneficial. Your loyal fans will come if they can and remain loyal, the casual fans are fickle anyway so it is hit or miss whether they show up on Tuesdays at 8pm or Saturdays at Noon.

I'm not here to piss people off or start some sort of holy war; trust me I'm a fan first, but the reality of the situation is that it is much more beneficial to Bowling Green State University and the Bowling Green football program to play when ESPN tells us.

Is it the best scenario? Maybe not, but sometimes you have to look at the overall big picture rather than how many hot cocoas we can sell during a game or alumni that can make it back for a game.

I have no issue with a weeknight game, I can usually make them instead of weekend games since I work most Saturdays as it is, so for me its a plus. TV exposure is good, better if we win.

Tomorrow night at every bar in the country BGSU will be on TV. There is no pro basketball, college basketball, baseball, pro football, other College football to compete. Some weird people might be trying to watch hockey until they realize they don't get the rules and nothing ever happens. Should Schilz, Jorden, Gates, Jones, Woods or Samuel do something incredible it will be noticed and remembered. Draft nerds from around the country will be talking about how Bojicic fits into their teams plans or does not.

I'll be watching the Red Wings game over the BG football game, and I will be knowing what's going on, can't say the same when I watch BG's offense though.

Looking at this from another angle, by not playing our November games at home, we've opened up the Doyt to...high school playoff football. Evidently Kenton vs Genoa is scheduled for the Doyt, 7pm this Saturday, and there's a Division VI game preceding it at 3pm.

Go figure.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
