RIP Joe Frazier. Thanks for the memories of when heavyweight boxing was relevant.

I can still remember sitting in the dorm and listening to the "Thrilla in Manilla" on the radio.

There is a pattern developing. Its announced through the media that someone has a particular ailment (cancer, dementia, stroke) and the person is "making a public statement" thanking their fans and that they are in hospice care or long-term care. A week later the person passes.

Smokin' Joe was one of my all-time favorite fighters. Even when he fought George Foreman and took an incredible beating, he was always moving forward. And he could sing too....
