Rockets could open season in Durham

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

Brad Fanning reported last night that the Rockets could be playing Duke in Cameron Indoor this season.

One of my life to-do list items is to see a Duke game in Cameron Indoor...it won't be that one. :x

Why not?

I'd go to that one in a heartbeat. I'd like to see a game at Cameron myself, and watching the Rockets get pounded in the process would only add to the attraction. :)

I suppose the atmosphere there would be a lot more fun for an ACC game, though. My buddy is trying to get a job at UNC; knowing my love for college hoops, he's already promised me tickets for a future Duke-UNC game if he gets hired.

I saw Virginia play at Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium game a few seasons ago, it was awesome!!! I can't stand Duke, but I must admit, it was the best atmosphere ever for college hoops and I've been to a lot of places. I'm at Duke University a couple times a year with work and every time I go to Duke, I always walk into Cameron. It's kind of similar to Anderson Arena to be honest, except it has seating all the way around and the whole facility is larger than AA. Duke has added a lot to the exterior and concourses over the last couple years. It's a MUST SEE venue for any hoop junkie. Word to the wise though, if you are the opposing team, you must be thick-skinned and tolerable of 9,314 spectators making fun and cutting on everything about your school and team in that place for about two hours. I can understand how anyone could come out of Cameron just hating Duke after they've played a game in there. You've got thousands of non-athletic, rich, brainy, couldn't dribble a basketball to save their life college kids talking smack and all you want to do is reach over and strangle them to death! :x If you are able to actually beat Duke in Cameron, it could feel like you won the NCAA Championship.

Maryland's Cole Fieldhouse was a great place for a game (they stopped playing there a couple seasons ago and now play in the new Comcast Center). Kentucky's Rupp Arena was a pretty cool place because the crowd and enthusiasm made it feel like a football game indoors. It's also connected to a mini-mall and hotel which was kind of weird. North Carolina's Dean Smith Center is a very nice place, but the atmosphere was not what I expected. The UNC faithful has been labeled as a "whine and cheese" type of crowd and it sometimes shows in there.

My next stop for places I want to see a game is Allen Fieldhouse at the University of Kansas.

That's one thing I've always said about Cameron as well. I've never been there, although I'd like to, it just reminds me of an enlarged Anderson. I hate Duke, but it is without a doubt the best atmosphere in all of college basketball. As much as I hate them I was still glad to see Coack K stick around, I think it would've been a bad thing for college hoops as a whole for him to leave.

I think the UT guards could keep it a lot closer than most think for awhile, then Stan the Man and the lack of a true frontcourt player factor in and Duke pulls away late by 17 maybe.

The interesting part of the story is the previously scheduled game with Siena. The MAC office is reportedly shopping that game around the MAC to let UT go and get a payday in Durham.

Hey if it means keeping Urbana/Defiance/Findlay or Owens off the schedule count me in as wanting Siena to come to BG.

Any one Remember The Last Time Siena Came?

What an unbelievable game that was. It was 45-38 or something at the half, which was unheard of in the 45 second shot clock days. Final score was 136-121 or something crazy. . . I remember seeing the Michigan State assistants there scouting and thinking what a game for them to see. Man, what a team that was in 91-92.
