The Feds are moving in...not some rinky-dink local DA or the head in the sand NCAA....the FEDS. This could get even uglier....

McQueary to Coach Saturday

For crying out loud, at least put the guy on adminstrative leave until this thing sorts out. . .

I'm very troubled about the McQueary incident. I would think that a child being molested would be hoping that another adult would walk in on them and stop the abuse. Why didn't he grab the child and get him out of there? I can hardly talk about it without getting emotional.

I certainly do not even come close to condoning Sandusky's actions, nor the fact that the administration let this slip. I wish, for Joe Pa's sake, that he had pushed it beyond simply telling them the allegations he became aware of the one time and then letting it go. When I was a kid, I used to say Penn State was my favorite team, and even though I'm not so much of a fan now, I do still root for them when I see them on. I can't say I disagree with the board's decision to fire Paterno, as he almost definitely should have pushed for more investigation, etc. But I do hate to see his career end this way.

One thing that puzzles me is I've seen statements that part of Schultz's area of responsibility was overseeing the campus police. I take that to mean that he wasn't police but he was the civilian department head. If the department head of the campus police has been notified, couldn't one say the police were notified?

I think if I knew the crime had been reported to the civilian in charge of the police, I would feel confident that the police were notified. I'm also working under the assumption that campus police are real police with guns, bracelets, truncheons and the authority to arrest.

When I read that he was a grad asst I pictured a 22 year old kid, still wet behind the ears trying to dea with something beyond his comprehension. When I see he was 28 and went to this DAD and his DAD didn't tell him to call the cops (or if he did the guy ignored the advice) then he continued to coach in that program knowing that there was no folloup- well, that's a little crazy. Letting him coach this week is a lot crazy.

I investigate child abuse for a living but even when I try to view it as someone with no knowledge of this kind of stuff Wow, I'm thinking they STILL aren't getting it.

How can McQueary even shpw his face on that campus....he saw a little kid getting raped and did nothing? I'd be too embarrassed and ashamed to go within ten miles of the place

He has lived with it for ten years. It probably had a ridiculous mental effect on him initially and he has probably been rationalizing how he acted for years, probably not going to change just because someone else found out. After all he has known he did this for 9 years.

This article says much the same thing- rationalizing is how we help ourselves through trauma. Not excusing but I think there's some truth to this article- I'm guessing the guy doesn't keep a lot of mirrors around the house, hough.

I think...IIRC my psych classes correctly...the ability to rationalize our guilt...our failures...diminishes over time. So...he's probably going to be burdened by this more later in life.

Penn State has indicated he won't be at the game this weekend due to threats made against him. Now he can think of himslef as a victim. Oh, goody....

The whole thing reeks. How McQueerEye is still employed is crazy. Seems like there is something bigger at works. They could have disassociated themselves from this situation quite easily in 2002. Sandusky was retired with only an emeritis status. Sure it would have been bad publicity for the university but why would so many prominent employees risk their careers over a former employee. All to end up losing them anyway! Plus in 2002 the backlash and jokes on the internet wouldn't be 1/10 of what they are now. I just think there is something else not being told or hidden. What that is and if we will ever know, who knows. Can''t forget the sudden disappearance of a defense prosecutor either. Was Sandusky raping/fondling players for playing time? Seems outlandish but as bizarre as this has been I would believe it.
