Re: First BG Game
As I was walking in the East gates after halftime, I had my program and a bottle of Powerade. As I passed thru the gate, I heard some guy say "Sir, you cannot bring that in here". I didn't think he was talking to me cuz I wasn't really paying attention. Well, two kids in the yellow jackets chased me down and told me I couldn't bring that in here. Bring what?? The bottle of Powerade. I said "You're kidding, right?" They said no, no outside food or beverages. I laughed in their faces, opened the bottle and chugged it down. Then I handed them the empty bottle and said "Problem solved". What a freakin joke. I will not pay $4 for a gatorade inside the stadium but with the lack of people in the stands, you would think this wouldn't be a big deal.

BGSU Staff Meeting Agenda:
1. What can we do to degrade attendance at Athletic Events?

Re: First BG Game
I could see them stopping you, if you had a whole cooler of food and beverages coming into the stadium. But a bottle of powerade? They need to worry about getting people in the stadium, not hassling them when they show up.
They want to fix the attendance problem? Start by having games on Saturdays. 3:00 at the earliest. Noon kick-off is too early, especially for homecoming. To me, MAC football is pure college football. No million dollar coaching salaries. No players getting payed. No TV contracts. Honestly, I don't care is BG isn't on ESPN. What did that get us Tuesday night? National recognition that our stands were empty?

Re: First BG Game
and you all thought I was nuts to make remarks about the yellow-jacketed gestapo from the Home Opener this year. The audacity to enter with a $4 cup of 'Bucks from across the street to take in to watch warmups a full hour before the game.
Next they will be padding down old ladies blankets, no telling what kind of crowd-endangering devices they'll bring in...oh wait, they did that too.
Haven't been back since! Now scheduling conflicts with high school sports and a couple of other things have had a role in that, but at this point in the season I'd rather be at home getting ready for the following morning than 2.5 hours away watching this live.
Hey Petra, how is the swim team doing in MAC competition?

There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

Re: First BG Game
Welcome to 2011...the age of zero tolerance enforcement. I don't expect anyone in a position of authority to cut me slack these days...why should they? Less potential for a problem if you treat everyone the same...less need for thought or reason too
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: First BG Game
I put my bottle of pop, sunflower seeds and candy organe slices in my coat. The gestapo eyeballed me. I eyeballed back and walked in. I gave them that half-eyes closed "don't mess with my seeds and slices look" which stopped them from looking in my coat that I was carrying. They knew not to mess with my dinner.

Re: First BG Game
I think this is pretty normal in most venues, including high school games. Not sure why this was so surprising to you.Falconfreak90 wrote:As I was walking in the East gates after halftime, I had my program and a bottle of Powerade. When we came out for Morgan State, we were told no Tootsie Rolls, no nothing.
We smuggled 'em in, of course, but it was kinda ridiculous.

Re: First BG Game
It is all a little silly, but I think a couple folks need to go back and look up the word "gestapo" in their history books.

At the football game, a season ticket holder was told she couldn't bring her car keys in because they were on a metal D-Ring clip. She was stunned and asked why. They told her it could be used as brass knuckles!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

This is what happens when you give the wrong people a little bit of power. They abuse it and start acting like they own the university. Friggin idiots. Use some frickin common sense! (Can we get that sponsored by Fricker's and earn some $?)Falcon Fanatic wrote:+1TG1996 wrote:It is all a little silly, but I think a couple folks need to go back and look up the word "gestapo" in their history books.

Ummm, I think TG was suggesting that "gestapo" might be waaaaayyyy TOO harsh, considring who the gestapo were. You might want to change that to a -1.

Ok, I misread the post...but, my point was that they are going overboard. I find it ridiculous that the company that is doing security at these events is treating the locals like they are in some high crime area. And this is one story of MANY crazy things I've heard that people are exeriencing. This is freaking Bowling Green, Ohio. Not some inner city, crime ridden area.h2oville rocket wrote:Ummm, I think TG was suggesting that "gestapo" might be waaaaayyyy TOO harsh, considring who the gestapo were. The security folks at the Stroh Center wouldn't let my mom bring in her umbrella for the first Stroh Show.... What's she going to do, umbrella the FMB to death? This new security firm needs a lesson in common sense...
