No more being beaten on our home field!

Post by BGSU33 »

We have one more game at home against Ohio, and obviously it's our seniors' last home game. I really hope they come out and play their best game of the year in their last contest at the Doyt. BG is just 7-14 at home in the last four seasons and if we lose to OU it will be our third losing season at home in the last four years. We have to get this corrected. Ohio has beaten BG in the Bobcats' last two trips to Bowling Green and OU is going for three consecutive at BG for the first time in over 30 years! Let's get it done Falcons! Close this home season out right.
GO BG!!!

This is really going to dampen the mood, but I'll ask anyway. When was the last time the Miami Redhawks lost in BG? That's the only MAC East team that hasn't lost in BG since I started following the team in 05.

Speaking of 05, that was the year that BGSU's record at home really started going south. In 2007 the team was 4-1 at home. If you take away that season from the mix, BG is 10-21 at home from 2005 to 2001. That is a really eye-opening statistic.

Last time we beat Miami at home ... not sure but I think you have to go back to the 90s.
2000 - played on the road, I assume a loss
2001 - home loss
2002 - did not play
2003 - lost twice
2004 - did not play
2005 - obliterated them on the road
2006 - lost at home
2007 - they obliterated us on the road
2008 - home loss (WTF??)
2009 - road win
2010 - home loss (BS!!)
2011 - road win
MarkL has spoken.

Per some website..we beat them in 1996 and 1997...it'd almost have to be one of those games. In 2008, Miami and EMU beat us at home...in every MAC game we lost that year, we lead in the 4th qtr....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

In '97 we beat them at home 28-21. We finished 3-8 that season and they finished 8-3.

I agree, let's pound the Bobcats! I hope to see more people at the game this week..... The NIU attendance was sparse, at best..... Let's send the seniors out with a bang and get the ball rolling for a strong 2012 season!

Unless many many more fans start showing up at the home games than there is really nothing we can say about home field advantage. Watching tv th northern Illinois game was embarrassing it looked like a high school game with empty bleachers all over the place. It's kind of hard for the team to get pumped up when they look around during pre game warm ups and see empty seats everywhere, no student section , nobody cheering waving towels , pompoms or anything. It really saps the emotion out of the players

While I agree with that, every other sport has to deal with that (lack of spectators) and those teams have to find a way to get themselves pumped for the game. I played all smaller sports in high school so I know all about playing in front of nobody. Bottom line is the team, or us as fans, cannot use the lack of attendance as an excuse for not playing well.

That was an utterly frustrating year... I tried not to have the mentality we would blow the lead every game, and after a while, it proved too difficult...
