Middle School Football ... that's a wrap (w/video!)

Post by 1987alum »

Well, that's that.

Noah's last middle school football game started like this: They get set to receive the kickoff. The opposing team squibs it toward the far sideline and our coach, who apparently can see quite well some 53 yards away, is yelling "let it go, let it go!"

The boys listen and the other team recovers inside the 20. Two players later, it's 7-0 and, well, that was all they needed. We lost to the other two middle schools from our district a combined 68-0. Ouch.

Noah played well in his last game: 1 carry for 5 yards and a nice job blocking at fullback. He had a tackle for loss and did well in the middle of the line defensively.

Oh well, on to freshmen ball next year!

Here's a quick video of a few bits I shot with my point & shoot.

So here is a question for the dads, at what point do you start praying that your son is listening to and applying all the life lessons you have taught (so you don't have to worry about getting your AZZ kicked). Logan is getting up for 6:00 a.m. weightlifting and joined the 8th grade wrestling team (coach told him it would help his football), he came home last night after practice and told me he cut weight down to 138 lbs (he is about 5'8") and he benched 185 (his total for bench/dead lift/hang clean/squat was over 650). I can't comprehend this and hope he remains as dedicated to grades and pray that my old man muscles kick in when needed.

Tech: Thanks. Just love Sam Spence!

Pete: Noah hasn't even started weightlifting and all that and he's about 5-10, 150 - all muscle. Thankfully, he's still very much afraid of his father. :)

I'm thankful that he's keeping it all in perspective. He loves music and is very dedicated to his practice regime. At the same time, he seems serious about attaining Eagle Scout and knows the type of work that will demand. He juggles that with sports and academics pretty well - so far. But I'm not naive enough to think that he's on auto pilot. There's a lot of work ahead.

They are listening.... they just can't let you know they are listening. Just like we didn't let on that we were listening to our fathers. And its okay to make a mistake once and awhile.... its how we learn.

'87 - Keeps us updated on the Eagle Scout. Sam is really reaping the benefits from it. More from the lessons learned along the Eagle trail, rather than some magic recognition by others. Hard work pays off.
