First BG Game
Re: First BG Game
Wow, you guys are whiners. These are standard rules for sports venues, including large high school and OHSAA events. I'm glad you guys aren't in charge of security.

I find it ridiculous that the company that is doing security at these events is treating the locals like they are in some high crime area. And this is one story of MANY crazy things I've heard that people are exeriencing. This is freaking Bowling Green, Ohio. Not some inner city, crime ridden area.h2oville rocket wrote:Ummm, I think TG was suggesting that "gestapo" might be waaaaayyyy TOO harsh, considring who the gestapo were. You might want to change that to a -1.
Where you are welcome to bring your key ring into the stadium and we all get along just fine.

I've been to every basketball venue in the MAC except NIU, OU, and Buffalo. I've also been to Yost, Munn, Hinkle Fieldhouse, and the Schott, and none of those venues have this type of enforcement. Hell, I've never even had to pay or parking at any of those places, either. I simply don't understand why all this extra security is necessary. We don't have a track record of violence at our events... I suspect it's mostly to keep people from sneaking in their own alcohol and dipping into the University's profits.dstubb wrote:Wow, you guys are whiners. Not whining bro...just seems a bit excessive these days, IMO.

I've been to NBA/NHL venues, Ohio State/Michigan games, NFL venues, and just about every sporting event in between. Never have I been told that my carabiner key chain could be used as a weapon by a member of any of those security members.dstubb wrote:Wow, you guys are whiners. What's next? Are we going to forbid students from having their keys on lanyards since they could be used to choke someone?

It is also VERY common for some small snacks to be brought into most sporting venues nowadays. They usually won't let you bring in stuff like gatorade, but water is usually cool (or juice boxes/pouches). Stuff like peanuts, candy, etc are usually fair game as well at most professional venues.BGDrew wrote:I've been to NBA/NHL venues, Ohio State/Michigan games, NFL venues, and just about every sporting event in between. And we won't have any violence in the future because of the security measures that are in place. You don't wait for something to happen to implement policies that could have prevented it. It's called be proactive, not reactive.jg4242 wrote:dstubb wrote:We don't have a track record of violence at our events...

I don't know about other MLB venues but Great American Ballpark lets you bring in softsided coolers, I've seen people eating Subway. However, I've never been to a college venue that lets you bring in outside / drinks.hammb wrote:It is also VERY common for some small snacks to be brought into most sporting venues nowadays. Freak and a group tried that a few years back for a football scrimmage, and the then, security force, one James Elsasser, took care of that! lol
