Who is in CHARGE of the athletic schedule?

Post by factman »

Does it make ANY sense to have a home hockey game and a men's basketball game scheduled on the same day at the same time, especially on a weekend (Veteran's Day) when many, if not most students go home for the weekend?
To make it worse, they then schedule the Saturday hockey game for 4pm on Saturday, instead of the normal 7pm start! I know the change in the men's basketball schedule (going to Georgia) started the problem, but they could at least moved the Saturday hockey game back to 7pm after the Saturday basketball game was moved to Friday to make it easier for more people to attend.
Here's an idea......FREE PIZZA for everyone, because there won't be enough people at any game, that one car couldn't deliver the pizza!

HOW MANY TIMES DO WE NEED TO BRINF THIS UP. IT'S BEEN MENTIONED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND OF ALL PEOPLE YOU WOULD THINK FACTMAN WOULD HAVE THE FACTS......

When the original schedule came out the BG vs Howard game was a 7:30pm start. The hockey game was scheduled for 4pm start. This way fans could attend both games. The women were scheduled in Dayton on Friday.

Then after all schedules were published by our school, the MAC and the CCHA, Georgia of the SEC says they want to play us on Sunday. So, in order for us to play at Georgia on Sunday, on ESPN, against a decent team from a power conference we had to move up our game against Howard. That was an inconvenience for Howard and the only day they had free and that would fit into our schedule wa then Friday, Nov 11. So I don't blame the athletic department on this scheduling issue. In order to play Georgia it had to be done and I am glad it was. I enjoyed watching us play at Georgia.

I understand ALL of that, but ask Coach Bergeron how happy he was not being told that the Saturday game was changed, or he would have changed the 4pm start time to its original 7pm time. Maybe we could even have changed the hockey series to Saturday/Sunday........I don't know, but maybe.

Maybe they should at least offer to refund ticket prices for those that have season tickets for both sports!

The hockey game WAS always scheduled to be at 4pm. That never changed!!!!!!! The basketball game was the game that was moved. Even if the basketball game was still played on Saturday, the hockey game was STILL SCHEDULED to drop the puck at 4. Now if they really wanted too they could have moved back the hockey start to 7pm once the basketball game was moved.

Maybe Todd can shed some light but I am 100% certain the tickets show a 4pm drop off the puck for Saturday. And the original schedule when it was released says, BG Hockey vs Canisius, 11/12/11 4pm. Men's basketball vs Howard 11/12/11 7pm.

But I will agree to disagree just so that your right.

So, if I read this right, you are ok with the fact that only 3,400 (68% capacity) people showed up to the first men's game in the Stroh because they were able to play an away game on ESPN? That game should have been sold out.

If the local community wanted to come to the game they would have found a way. Whether it was on a Friday or a Saturday or at 8am on Wednesday they would find a way. But they dint. I was very surprised of the student turn out on a holiday weekend where many students left early. I agree that the game should have been sold out but attendance in the last year at AA wasnt very good either so I am not surprised at our attendance. Put a winning product on the floor and maybe we will see an increase in attendance.

For a team that was picked to finish last in the MAC, again, the attendance was as high as it was because people wanted to experience the first basketball game in the Stroh, and that's it. The next home game, expect 2,000 or less, unless the team starts to play some actual basketball. I'm being a realist here.
