Ohio basketball/Ohio State hockey conflict
Ohio basketball/Ohio State hockey conflict
I was in town this past weekend for the men's basketball season opener and realized the hockey team was playing at the same time. With it being on a Friday night, I guess they basically had to go head-to-head like that. That being said, I was looking at other dates that I have for my mini season ticket package for men's basketball to see if there are any days when I will be in town for basketball again that I can also try and take in a hockey game if they were also home that weekend. I noticed that on Saturday, January 7th the men's basketball team will open its MAC season vs Ohio at 6:00 PM, however, the hockey team is also hosting Ohio State at 7:00 PM. Obviously, it's another conflict. Does anyone know if there is a chance of one of these games being moved up (since it's a Saturday)? I'm sure I can't be alone from the standpoint of a fan wanting to go to both. I seem to remember us trying to avoid this kind of thing. I do know the basketball game will be televised on STO, so I'm guessing we're locked into that time, but couldn't they move the hockey game start time? Any thoughts or info?

No chance for the basketball game. It's in the MAC TV package and airing on STO that afternoon/night.

I'm still coming up to BG that day. The women host Akron at noon, Men and Ohio at 6 and then walk over to the Ice Arena for the last period or two vs the schmuckeyes.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Yup, game got switched from its original time of 4pm to 6pm for STO coverageAyZiggy97 wrote:No chance for the basketball game. After looking at all three teams' schedules, Feb 11th and Feb 25th look good. Feb 11th- women @ ut (noon), drive to BG for the men vs ut @ 4 and then hockey against Northern Mich. Feb 25th-women host Miami at 1, men host Kent State at 4 and then hockey vs Meeeeechigan at 7:05.
Marking all three days on the calendar now...I love triple headers.

Re: Ohio basketball/Ohio State hockey conflict
We could always drop our hockey team to club level and football to FCS level and then the basketball team will not have any conflicts. I don't like the fact that at times there are multiple games at the same time but that is the realization of college sports, especially now with more tv coverage. Other schools have the same problem. You just need to deal with it and quit complaining. For the past 10 years I constantly have to decide if I want to go to the Men's game or Women's game because 75% of the time they are played at the same time.

By the sounds of it, the games didn't conflict. But, STO said they wanted to air the game, but the time needed to be switched. The University/conference was wise and moved the game to accomodate television. The only solution would be to move hockey to 2:00 or 3:00, but Ohio State probably would be against that. Or, move hockey to 9:00, but fans would protest that move.

The women do play at home that day as well (at noon, game may be on STO too) so 3pm would be ideal if it were ever considered. I love the 9pm idea, though sadly it would never happenfootballguy51 wrote:By the sounds of it, the games didn't conflict. This is the best suggestion I've read on here in a LONG time. Of course I think I'd go further and get rid of football altogether.gmartin wrote:We could always drop our hockey team to club level and football to FCS level and then the basketball team will not have any conflicts.

I say we tell Ohio State that the game is either 3pm or 9pm, their choice.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:The women do play at home that day as well (at noon, game may be on STO too) so 3pm would be ideal if it were ever considered. Really, if they won't play at 3pm because the game's too early, and won't play at 9pm because it's too late, that's really petty of them and the CCHA should tell them to stick it in their ear.

Re: Ohio basketball/Ohio State hockey conflict
Moving the hockey game up might be tough because they play the night before. But even if the hockey game could be moved back an hour until 8:00, it would at least make it possible to see all or most of the basketball game and get over to the ice arena by the first period.

That actually wouldn't be a problem because that weekend the series is Saturday/Sunday instead of the usual Friday/SaturdayBGSU33 wrote:Moving the hockey game up might be tough because they play the night before. Re: Ohio basketball/Ohio State hockey conflict
The decision to move a game's time is dependent first on the conference (if it's a conference game), the opponent, and then the athletic department hosting the event. If I had to bet I would say we haven't even contacted the CCHA regarding moving the hockey game's puck drop.

You are probably right, but I really hope we look into this. It sounds like I am not alone in wanting to try and attend both games.BGDrew wrote:The decision to move a game's time is dependent first on the conference (if it's a conference game), the opponent, and then the athletic department hosting the event.
