What were everyone's impressions about the tight security at the Stroh Center on Friday? To me, it seemed a little over the top. At the beginning of the game, an announcement was made that any photos taken were not allowed to be posted on any social networking site and then they listed a few of them. Did anyone else hear that? I was hoping to post a couple of photos on Twitter for friends who couldn't make the game, but didn't, not knowing what that was about.

After the game, my girlfriend waited for me to grab my stuff (I played in the alumni athletic band) and was strictly told she wasn't allowed to step foot on the court and had to stay in her section. I understand this one... but it still seems kind of harsh. When I met up with her, we walked to the top so we could go down the stairs and exit. I stopped for a moment so I could look around and take a few photos (this is the first time I'd been up there). After no more than 30 seconds, we had two people telling us that we had to leave and noticed that they were telling everyone else the same.

I know these are new facilities, but why the tight security? I'm an alumni of the university and was excited to check out the new arena and share some photos with my friends. Not only was I rushed out, but I'm unsure that I'm even allowed to post photos of the facilities/game.

I was taking pics the entire game on my phone and sending them to my brother. Now that I have said that, I will probably have a man in a dark suit on my doorstep asking for my phone to step on it.

Hmmm....I didn't hear (nor would I have heeded) any announcement regarding photos.

I took a photo pre-game and had it posted to my fb account before the game even tipped off. I seriously doubt if anything would come from that.

Actually, they said "footage" and the reference was specifically to video. They make the same announcement at the football games.

I heard the same thing during the UConn series at the Ice Arena. I can kind of understand it but it's not like I am posting information to Facebook or Twitter to make money. I am proud of my school and want more people to see why I am proud.

Yes, I think the patdowns to find illegal Milk Duds and Sunny D is becoming a bit extreme.

A security person insisted on looking in my sister's purse when she entered the game. The guy flat out told her that he was looking for food and/or drinks because concessions are a large source of $ at these events.

This is a just piss poor way to treat people who travel to BG, pay to park, and buy a ticket. I will be a very cold day in hell before I part with cash on BG concessions at the Stroh, especially at those new inflated prices. They can kiss my ass.

I wonder if this will change after the first couple of women's games. Coach Miller and his staff have always made a point of letting the team stay on the court to interact with the fans and their families. If the new security types won't let fans on the court, that tradition will die, which would make me very sad.

After the women's exhibition game with Findlay, the team met with fans in the Hall of Fame area of the Stroh Center. Hope those beautiful windows are well insulated as people were warm & sweaty from the game. So yes no one is getting on the floor but there is an alternative. Only time I've been on the floor was after Van De Walle's last home match.....then it was like pulling teeth to get down there. They wanted us to enter from the student section. That got changed.
As for the pat downs & hunting for candy, drink & food, superstition bag I always take to women's games was opened by me & then fingered through by the security people. I've worked security......I think that's unlawful search & they need a search warrant to do what they are doing.
Calling Christopher or Mary Ellen Gillespie (oversees game day experiences) may be the only way to change this atmosphere. Somebody told these "rent a cops" what to do. Talking & writing amongst ourselves won't help just fill space. I love the Stroh but HATE the pregame search & seizure going on. I've asked about it but it falls on deaf ears 'cause I've carried the message from others.
Want it changed band together like the hockey fans did.

I worked security too back in the day...you want to enter their facility. They have a right to set parameters re your entrance into that facilty. They have a right to search you to make sure you're within those parameters. I've been to a couple of Lions games the past two years up in Detroit..they pat you down, search bags and use metal detectors. We aren't that hardcore about it.

Neither did I Flip.

And I've been to all the home football games without issue as well.

Sounds like a lot of people have had much worse experiences with the security than I have at BG events this year, but honestly I haven't even noticed it being any different than years past.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about that too, just like I was concerned for the same reason about going on the field after football games. I think I personally met and talked too virtually all the women's players and coaches from 2005 through 2009 just by being on the floor after games. It's really a great tradition and a great way for fans to get to know the players and coaches on a more personal level, usually while celebrating a victory which makes it all the more fun. It's a little more low key than jumping up and down singing Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba following a football game, but still very cool nevertheless.

BGSU had better not let security or anything else get in the way of these going on the field/court traditions following games...otherwise they will end up really alienating a lot of their most dedicated followers.

That seems to be exactly what they are trying to do with many of these policies!
