ESPN games a conspiracy

Post by gmartin »

Watching all of these ESPN MAC mid week games got me thinking. Does ESPN have a plan. With the low attendance across the conference during the mid week games how can we meet are 15,000 requirement to remain FBS status.

If you thought our attendance was bad did anyone happen to see the Miami game. The band was actually sitting in one section in the middle of the field and I could count 27 other people in the stands. I am sure the other side had all the season ticket holders and students but I would guess there is less than 5000 at that game.

If we continue to play these mid week games we are not going to make our requirement and we can blame espn for this.

Gotta remember the attendance number is tickets sold. Even though there were maybe 5,000 there vs N. Illinois the attendance listed was over 13k.

I am of the distinct opinion that the week night games are now doing more harm than good for the university and football program.

That Miami game, the main camera showed the home sideline, so not sure if the other side had many people either.

Miami's announced attendance last night was 15729. BG's was 11804 which brought their average for 6 home games this season to 15006. Looks to me like you can make the numbers pretty much what you want them to be within reason. I would guess how the MAC schools are accounting for football attendance is far down the priority list of the NCAA right now.

As I posted earlier somewhere, it really makes no sense at for the MAC to have two games on at the same time during the week. The big selling point for a mid-week game is that it's the only game available. So ust maybe a bunch of hardcore football fans and high school sophomores would get to see the university and the team. When you cut that number in half by having another MAC game on at the exact same time, you're defeating the purpose of having a mid-week game. If we're the only game in town on a Tues or Wed, maybe, just maybe it's worth it. When there's another game on at the same time, it's dubious if there's any benefit.

Personally, I'm getting tired of playing these mid week games. Would much rather play on Saturday...
