I am with you Globe. There's no question he has recruited some talented players but Clawson either looks lost on the sidelines or his having a tantrum with a ref. The team rarely looks well prepared beyond the first possession and sometimes the cadence might as well be "running behind the right guard, GO" After what should have been a 4-0 start we are now 4-7. I don't understand why so many people are OK with that.Globetrotter wrote:How so?transfer2BGSU wrote:You are so damn funny. If it is a contract thing then sure. I just hope we don't miss the boat on Coach Stud by waiting too long. Although I guess I don't really know how great of a coach he is. Just the idea of bringing in a hometown guy from Fostoria and BG just off a championship with LSU makes me think he would be a great fit.
Quit being such a jerk about it. If you disagree, explain why. I don't come to a discussion board to not have discussion. His record over his first 3 years has been abysmal.
Records over 1st 3 years
Blackney 27-6-2
Meyer 17-6 (2 years)
Brandon 26-11
Clawson 13-23
The momentum is clearly swinging in the other direction. He is 1-6 over the last 7 games. That's miserable. There is talent on the field, that is obvious, but that talent does not seem to being put into positions where they can succeed.

DJ Durkin is the LBs coach at Florida as well. I think all three are rising in the coaching ranks. Didn't we used to have a member named Cowboy Joe who had his pulse on this stuff?Dayons_Den wrote:How times have changed with our online community when Flipper has become the sane, voice of reaseonFlipper wrote:Clawson will be back because he has a contract and the AD wants to give him every chance to succeed. Clawson did a hell of a job in 2009...that team dressed right around 50 scholarship players most weeks and he took them to a bowl game. Last year was a complete meltdown...a take it don to the studs rebuild. This year has been frustratig as hell, but could be seen as part of a maturation process if you want to spin it that way. No excuses next year...none. We aren't young...we aren't hampered by defections and APR. Win or go...
I do find it odd that you and others are pimping Studrawa for this job...he caught a ton of flak when he was the OC here. In fact...there were people openly hoping he wouldn't get the gig when the Brandon to UNLV rumors were flying....I think you are spot on here Flip. And to the Coach Stud thoughts, definitely not looking to shop our HC job, but a former staff member I'd keep tabs on is Zach Azzani, currently the OC at WKU.

Re: BEAT OHIO!
No one is screaming for his job. If he is to be back then is back. As far as I can tell people (and certainly me) are saying the momentum is going the other direction and if there is a prime candidate out there ready to go now we should strike while the iron is hot and not simply wait until next year when his team "might get better". He is certainly much closer to a pink slip then an extension.transfer2BGSU wrote:BGSU33 wrote:Looking back at the game, I really believe the turnovers that we had at the end of the first half were the biggest back breakers in the end. Take a look at most of our games and you will see that either a FRESHMAN or a SOPHOMORE fumbled in the red zone quite often this year.
We were our own worst enemy in the red zone throughout the year.
The nice thing about FRESHMEN, they become SOPHOMORES.
This team was a play or two away from winning in almost every game. Based upon the hype, I would have thought OU should have beaten us by 24 or more. Same with that school up north. This was a squad that was picked to finish the season .500 and while we may wind up below that, I think we have a bright future ahead of us. We just need to keep the running backs healthy, the OL line healthy, teach the WR/TE's how to catch the ball and hang on to it, work on the timing of the QB & WR's.
Keep Clawson. Drop the Internet guru's screaming for his job.

Re: BEAT OHIO!
I don't know about that. This was GC's first major hire here, and if he were to get rid of Clawson, that reflects poorly on him as an AD. Remember, this isn't the BCS where two bad seasons will cost you your job. We are competing in almost every MAC game. Next year youth won't be in play. That will be the telling sign of whether the program is on the right track. Also, it's unfair to compare Clawson's first three years with Brandon or Meyer. Meyer took over an upperclassman team and Brandon took over a team near the top of the MAC.
Re: BEAT OHIO!
Those points are true, but to play devil's advocate here, just because we have upperclassmen doesn't guarantee anything in terms of wins or better play. Look at how we were stacked in 2008 with a veteran team, picked to win the MAC, a great MAC schedule, we ever opened with a win over Pitt, and then we fell apart against teams like EMU and Buffalo at home. I see your point and don't disagree with it, but until we start wining these kind of games we are losing, and start taking care of the football, it doesn't matter what class the players are, they just need to execute.transfer2BGSU wrote:BGSU33 wrote:Looking back at the game, I really believe the turnovers that we had at the end of the first half were the biggest back breakers in the end. It was Derek Schorejs in '95 against UT. Hit a 60 yarder toward the north end right before half.h2oville rocket wrote:kdog27 wrote:Suisham had a 50 yarder at OU in 2004. Not sure he ever had one that long at home.RobbyFalcon wrote:What's the Doyt record for a FG? 49 yards is pretty good.
I think some BG guy got one of about 53 or 54 against us just before halftime 12-15 years ago. Not sure if that's the record but it was well over 50 yards.

Couldn't have been-if that happened in 1995 that would mean that I'm.....OMG, I AM! Really old! I think we won anyway though. I remember parking up by the fairgrounds and rollerblading to the game from there. We were all laughing about the FG attempt...and then we weren't.

Hence the word "almost". Last I checked, "almost every MAC game" and "every MAC game" were two different things.bgsufalcon24 wrote:That's not good enough.camkru9701 wrote:We are competing in almost every MAC game..

Agree 100%. Next year is Coach Clawson's 4th year of a 5 year contract. If he doesn't get the job done, we will find someone else....nothing personal, just the nature of the beast. I sincerely hope he brings home the trophy...Flipper wrote:Clawson will be back because he has a contract and the AD wants to give him every chance to succeed. I view the above as both a compliment and an indictment....

We have been in more games this year but is it really that great of an improvement? I hoped for this team to go 6-6 or better and to have a chance to win every game outside of WV. To me it looks like we are only a little better than last year. We have 2 more wins but one is an FCS win.
