BG beats Austin Peay to open tournament

Post by BGSU33 »

Calhoun comes up big today with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Henderson saw action tonight and hit both shots (both were threes) that he took. I hope we come out ready tomorrow because Detroit is going be hungry after losing to George Washington the way they did. GO BG!!!

The game was in the bag when Calhoun took a feed from Crawford and dunked. He then beat his man back down the floor and contested hs shot...It's the little things likea starter still working hard when the game is won that sets the tone for a team
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Good win Falcons! When is the last time we scored 82 points against a quality DI opponent? Nice work!

Detroit is beatable. Their best player, Center Eli Holman, has been suspended indefinitely

Yes, Holman is out, but Detroit is loaded with transfers and athleticism. Ray McCallum is a McDonald's All-American and could have played almost anywhere in the country he wanted but decided to play at Detroit for his dad. LaMarcus Lowe (Western Michigan transfer) is very quick and athletic in the post and has filled in nicely for Holman (Indiana transfer). Chase Simon (Central Michigan transfer) looks solid too. I watched Detroit's game at Notre Dame last week and came away very impressed. I felt Detroit was the best team on paper coming into this tournament. That said, I hope we can follow up George Washington's lead and meet GW for the tournament title on Wednesday.

They also have Juwan Howard Jr, luckily he has to sit out the year for transfering there from Western this season, he had his way with us in our two meetings with Western last season

A round robin is a type of tournament.

As for last night's game it was a fun one. We still had those painful 3-5 minute stretches where we seemed clueless offensively, but overall it was still a fun game. Oglesby putting back some missed shots, Calhoun & Brown getting their own shot and hitting them, the freshmen getting minutes and contributing...it was all great.

Definitely would like to see more of Henderson. The jumper looked good, now I wanna see if he can dribble.

Crawford was better distributing the ball, with less turnovers. Still wish he would start making his shots. Most of the shots he took were open looks, and his jumper is just streaky as all hell. I guess maybe he'll never become a consistent scorer, but man it would be nice if he did.

And Erger is still clueless. There was a possession where our entire defense was playing man, but Erger was just standing in the middle of the paint guarding nobody. I'm really struggling to figure out what it is he brings to the team, and why he would ever get on the court.

Overall it was great to get a win with Sealey (who had been one of our better performers on the season) having a really rough night. Let's hope we can back it up with an even better performance tonight :)

Erger also missed a a mid-range jumper that wasn't even close to going in. Why he was in the game is beyond me. Henderson looks like a true scorer and Chauncey Orr looks very comfortable as a freshman. Play these guys before Erger. Overall good effort vs. a team that could really score.

Playing 3 games in 3 nights is why he, and the other freshman, got minutes. You can't expect your starters to go out there for 35+ minutes three nights in a row.

In just a few minutes of action last night, Henderson (two) passed and Orr (one) matched the number of threes Erger made all of last season. Erger must be one helluva practice player or something (???), but be that as it may, it certainly doesn't (or hasn't) carried over into a game.

Gotta take my hat off to Erger in a short stretch against Detroit tonight as he hit a bail-out shot for two and shortly after big three in a critcal run for us.
