Some offensive stats comparisons (2010 vs. 2011)

Post by footballguy51 »

Some key areas we wanted to improve on from last year to this year were rushing and quarterback play. More often than not, it seemed we were just getting angry at everything offense. I'm hoping I can break down our stats from last year to this year to get a nice picture of how things have changed since last season.

Rushing:
(2010)
361 Carries
754 Yards
2.1 Yds/Car
35 Long (Willie Geter TD)
16 TDs

(2011)
402 Carries
1475 Yards
3.7 Yds/Car
96 Long (Anthon Samuel TD)
13 TDs

QB (Matt Schilz)
(2010)
337 Attempts
228 Completions
60.5% Completions
2223 Yards
5.90 Yards/Att
9.75 Yards/Comp
8 TD
14 INT
30 Sacks
76 Long
109.6 QB Rating

(2011)
411 Attempts
245 Completions
59.6% Completions
3024 Yards
7.36 Yards/Att
12.34 Yards/Comp
28 TD
13 INT
22 Sacks
83 Long
137.6 QB Rating

I wanted to post a separate reply in case people quoted the original post.

By what I listed, the only categories that got worse was Matt's Completion percentage and the number of touchdowns we scored on the ground. Thus, I would say we saw a dramatic improvement offensively from the Falcons.

If anybody has any other offensive stats they wish to post, I think this would be a great place to share them. Maybe team stats like total yards, points scored, giveaways, etc.

The area ofbimprovement that jumps out most to me ... TD to INT ratio. Matt will only improve in this regard. I think we've got a good one.

You beat me to this post as I was going to do something similar. I've seen drastic improvements all year and thought the complaints were way too mature. I'm really excited about next year and seeing how Schilz and Samuel improve after this offseason.

I felt our biggest problem this year was inconsistent oline play combined with a qb that's not mobile enough to get away from pressure. The line was good at times, and Matt is very good when he has time to stand in and make his reads. He put up good numbers this year, but made plenty of big mistakes too. Most of his bone head throws into coverage were under pressure. Get someone on him and he panics and forces things. Better protection and quicker reads could go a long way next year.
Yes, this year was pretty frustrating at times. They were so close to 7 or 8 wins. Last year when I was looking ahead, I hoped to see improvement this year with 2012 getting back to being a real contender for the MAC. I still feel that way. There was definite improvement this year. Next year will be very telling in my opinion.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. Half of Matt's INT's were at bad times in games and in places where the team was going in for points. I'm confident he has the ability to grow but this is something that next year he must get better at.

All good stuff posted...couple other things. BG had 72 penalties in 2010, 58 this yr so that is a nice improvement. That is less than 5 per game, which is very good.

However, turnover ratio we were terrible. -2 in 2010 and -13 in 2011. Cut down on the turnovers and this team is 8-4. That will be a key area to improve next year.
