BG Football Recruiting Breakdown: J.J Beggan OG

Post by mc3022 »

**Please see my first post: BG football recruits - current and breakdowns:**
- I do not take credit for any of the blurbs/information posted from any of the sites -

J.J Beggan- OL, Pittsburgh, PA - La Salle HS

Other offers include: Buffalo, Eastern Mich, Kent St., Toledo, Western Mich, Temple

6'4, 290 OG (ESPN) http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footb ... /jj-beggan

6'4, 290 OG (Scout) http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p= ... id=5598802

Rivals - NA

ESPN Rankings
3* - Grade 76/100
Positional rank: 68
Regional Rank: 132
State Rank :45
Traits: Blocking, Space Blocking, Physicality

Beggan displays the explosion and playing strength which allow him to dominate as a run blocker; is very efficient playing the offensive tackle position however we feel his toughness and run blocking skills are best suited for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition;

Scout Rankings:
2*
Positional Rank: 101

Rivals Rankings: NA

My breakdown: Was able to find some great film on JJ (at RT & DT, #78)

Junior Film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfHI7WM2yok

Scouting Pennsylvania Film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elhAD_s2R8s

Strengths: I had a blast watching JJ's film - JJ is the type of player that all the BG faithful can get extremely excited about entering the program. Early on in his Jr film, its very easy to see why so many MAC schools have offered him.

He is a tough-as-nails kid who excels at run blocking and loves to finish his blocks with pancakes. He pulls very well for 290 LBS and can also make 2nd level blocks on LBs. BEASTMODE!

Areas of Improvement: Although I was very impressed with his film, I can point out some reasons as to why some of the BCS schools may not have offered to this point.

The most glaring aspects of his game that need improvement are his flexibility and his 2nd level lateral movement. He tends to come out of his three-point stance a bit high at times, which I bet resulted in a few stand stills with defenders throughout his HS career. He needs to fire off the ball a bit lower at times, and increasing his hip flexibility will help.

I can also tell based on the kids he's going up against that he isn't going against that great of competition. More of a nitpicking type aspect, but something to watch as he enters his first few weeks of camp.

Overall: Don't be surprised if a few BCS schools come knocking on this kid's door before all is said and done. He is exactly the type of lineman BG needs for this program - A solid run blocker with a mean streak for an attitude.

If BCS schools do come to his door, I hope that he still stays with the BG program. He is a kid I can see providing depth/starting if necessary very early in his career. I see him as a Guard/Center prospect.

I love that, especially in a guard!
