Tim Beckman bolts

Post by zete »

The famous final scene that we in Toledo and BG know all too well. A coach pretending to have Toledo football close at heart while ringing his hands and licking his chops, hoping to win one more game and leave town as quickly as possible.
I love to take cheap shots at these guys coming in to step right on through to the next stone. At my age I have seen them come and go and, it is easy to spot them from a mile away. Damn, how much money does a guy need anyway. As crazy as it seems, Urban Meyer, family man that he is, would have been better off staying right in good old BG. There he could have raised his family in a nice town and avoided putting them through HELL. The ego always gets in the way...
I feel for those future Rockets. They were one of the best groups recruited by a MAC school in recent years. Little did the know they were being brought in to be exploited by a coach needing to move on.

I would like to see the art department at a northwestern Ohio newspaper draw up a caricature depicting Beckman moving up the road while Dave Clawson of BGSU is beating his pillow in frustration wondering when his turn will come.

Why? We seem to be building a really good class on our own....

Exactly, we seem to get so darned caught up in these recruiting classes and their meaningless rankings. Fact is that no one knows whether he recruited the best classes in the MAC the last two years.

I heard the centerpiece of their "awesome" class from last year..."Tank" Sturdivant...isn't even around anymore.

I wouldn't be a bit suprised to see them have the same old APR problems in another year or two. He recruited some borderline (academic) players the past couple of years, but of course they are at UT, so an "A" is equivalent to a "C" about anyplace else!

Yeah...there stunning rise in GPA's in 2-3 years seem real fishy to me.

Sounds hypocritical of us to begrudge someone moving up in their career. That’s just how the system works. You move on to a bigger program to advance your career and continue to provide for you and your family. At my workplace we have coordinators, managers, directors, vice presidents and CEO. You get promoted and move up the ranks. Sometimes you even have to leave an organization and go somewhere different to advance.

This is the reality. College football is no different. To think someone will turn down millions to earn $200,000 a year at a smaller school is just fan-speak. There have been some coaches who have turn down more money for security and the small school atmosphere, but they are the exception. Most move on and I don't blame them at all.

He was making 400K at Toledo. Like I said how much money does a man need? I guess a man with a HUGE ego needs millions.

400K to 2 million is a big salary jump and one I wouldn't argue with anyone for taking. Its not just for one man. That is the change that can benefit a family for generations.

As much as I love my job, if someone offered me 4 times my current compensation, I'd be hard-pressed to say no.

ANYONE can spot these guys. If they are a college football coach (with the exception of those at Alabama, Ohio State, USCalifornia, Michigan and a couple others), under age 55 they are one of those guys.

This. How can you begrudge a man for wanting to set his children up to be financially secure for the rest of their lives?
