Little advice for athletic department

I arrived late to the arena today and bought 4 tickets in time to get near my seats for introductions and the anthem. To my surprise a familar tall blonde was sitting in my seat surrounded by her family and extended family. I decided since a BGSU legend of women's basketball was in my seat it would be in bad taste to complain or even ask her to move because quite honestly I was embarrassed for the athletic department.

If Jackie Motycka and her family can't get a small section reserved for them on The DAY you honor her then why do we make the attempt in the first place. Honestly, with the number of seats available in the arena today the first 5 - 10 rows behind the basket should have been reserved for her family and close friends to join in the moment - I don't care where they bought seats just make some quality seats available to her party.

Maybe I'm making too much out of this but it just seems to be the right thing to do when you honor someone.

Despite sitting a couple rows above my seats we had a great view, enjoyed the $1 menu and as always loved the effort from our Falcons. If we want to have BiG Time arena management to assign seats, screen people as they come in and keep lollipops out of the arena then go the next step and be professional with your honored guest and her party.

That isn't quite as bad as assigning our team physicians seats up high behind the VISITING team!

Why wouldn't they have Jackie and her family sit in the Anderson Club? There are plenty of empty seats there.

are students on Christmas, Spring or some (Fall) Break or something? That section was weak. It's sad more support doesn't show for this excellent Program.

Also, does anyone know why the seats across from the visiting team are (usually) empty?

It is like half of that side is declared 'off limits' or something???

Student exams start Monday. They're all in the library instead of at the game. Shame on them; I found the game to be a useful break from studying

Nobody has bought those seats.

Section 101 & 102 across from the visiting bench are student overflow seats along with single game ticket sales. Since general admission, youth prices and senior discounts were left at AA, those seats may always be brown with no one wearing orange ever sitting in them. Full price for anyone over three (3)years old is too much for some families. Anybody else notice all the kids today? Lots were getting autographs after the game......future tuition payers I would hope but only if they keep coming back....oh wait regular prices resume for the Madonna game.
We won't be seeing the family of 8 or a long time women's fan, her husband and two children.....saw them this afternoon even bought 50-50.

We were running a final exam study session yesterday noon-10. I didn't know what our attendance would look like with the basketball game occurring as well. With how busy we were, students chose their grades over taking in a basketball game.

Or just do what I do... buy your kids a Falcon Kids Club for $25 for the year. Gets you in to all regular season sporting events at BGSU with a few exceptions. Couldn't use them for the Toledo football game this year, and a couple of the big hockey games are out, but otherwise, we use them all the time. Have been to a couple of hoops games already and they are great seats.

I was in the BG library too when I posted this, after the game, studying for law school exams. I was memorizing free speech case names during halftime. I even skipped the BG home games last week, to which I have paid season tickets, to study (law school exams are two weeks instead of one). I know what student priorities are and should be, and I meant to show sympathy for the students. They'll be out in more force, once the spring starts and MAC play begins.

A lot of students go home that weekend before finals to take stuff home that they won't have room for when they do home for the real break.

I believe that an honoree should be GIVEN seats for that game, and I agree that friends and family should have a section where they can all sit together.

On the other hand, if I were an Athletics administrator, I might have thought that falcon Turf had given me a wonderful money making idea: Honor somebody EVERY week, so that they automatically bring 10 - 20 people with them that would pay full price for tickets.

Why would Motycka need seats anyway? If she and her group are true Falcon fans wouldn't they be standing for the entire game?

I would say this is more of a facilities director/marketing and promotions problem and less of an AD problem. I would think those two departments are the front line in planning this kind of event.

Are you sure it wasn't Gregg Brandon's fault?

I hadn't thought of that. Maybe he gave away the prime seats behind the bench to the rowdy fans with the signs for the refs and therefore left the Motycka party to sit with the Kid's Club crowd and dance team. He was the same guy that bought tickets for rowdy student to sit behind the visitors bench years ago.....
