I'm mystified by the fact that people view the football program as stagnant. We had a terrible 2010. In 2011, we played the toughest conference schedule of anyone and were two plays away from being bowl eleigible. For 2012, we return 10 of 11 starters on D and a QB that threw for 3,000 and the FOY at RB.
Football is on the upswing....quit driving through the rearview mirror and look at talent we have on the roster....

There's a point transfer brought up that might be worth looking at a little mor eclosely. If the University truly beleives that playing on ESPN during the middle of the week is a key driver for out of state students coming here, the profitability of football becomes secondary. They are probably...to a point...willing to view the sport as a loss leader if it helps to provide a significant revenue stream overall. The downside to that is the team wil continue to play a random November schedule. This will inevitably hurt attemdance. In fact, I imagine if yo asked a marketig whiz for ideas to improve attendance, the first thing he'd do is tell you to stop playing weeknight ugames in November.

2-6 after 3-1 will do that. I looked at the talent in the preaseason and was certainly excited. I was excited at 3-1 as well. I am not sure it transferred to success on the field though. I hope you are right but what I saw the last 8 games was more of 2010 then 2004.Flipper wrote:I'm mystified by the fact that people view the football program as stagnant. We had a terrible 2010. I looked at 3-1 as being a nice start against relatively weak competition. We played tougher teams as the year went on. We beat Temple and almost beat OU. Those teams won Bowl games. We played UT close...they had a ton of SR's on that team. Yes..WMU and NIU trucked us, but at east we were competitive against them for a half.
The point I'm trying to make is you can't just look at the record when you're evaluating the direction of a team. YOu have to look at the context of the season and the big picture as a whole. Clearly...this team was better in 2011 than 2010. We're finally going to be at teh 85 max for scholarship players this year....
Bitterly cling to that rough stretch from 2010 all you want...I'm full of hope based on what I see in front of me instead of behind me.

Why do I have to discuss context when I saw them on the field looking awful? They frankly looked like an awful team where you were just waiting for the next messup at the end of the season. Could not tackle, Schilz looked bonheaded etc. etc. It was a flashback to 2010 even back to the days were we had like every other punt blocked in the Brandon days.Flipper wrote:I looked at 3-1 as being a nice start against relatively weak competition. I hate to lose more than I like to win. Always have, probably always will, but I stand by it. But I'll match you dollar for dollar if you want to have a pissing match about being a fan if you wanna go that route. I put my money where my mouth is. But thanks for counting and monitoring my threads, I appreciate you reading them. And here I thought no one paid attention....Flipper wrote:BGSU33 wrote:....And those who were should be slapped upside the head for even wanting to discussing it. How about we "waste" our time by talking about how to move up to the BCS level instead of how to drop down to the FCS. Jeez.....Flipper wrote:Jeez...some of you need to calm down. We're spitballing the idea of dropping down to a lower rung of Dvision one football...
Given the number of threads you start after every loss vs the number you start after every win...who are you to lecture anyone about being a fan?

Thanks. These posts where people act like they have so much to say, but are too nice to say it are pretty lame. Kind of like saying no offense then insulting someone. This place is full of holier than thou posts where people just pop in to add posts simply to put down the conversation as a whole. This stuff does not need to devolve into childish insults but always does on here. Its ok to disagree with someone. Whats even more ok is reading something and then saying "I am not interested in that so I won't join into the conversation." I hate the self righteous these types of conversations are beneath me posts.Flipper wrote:Yup..I've said all I shouldon this and since it's almost Christmas...I'm not gonna say everything I want to.
