Winning over 75% of the time with the Huskers. Solich is a good coach, no question. Ohio has done well the last few seasons.tiznow wrote:Globetrotter wrote:Thats what I thought right away. Going with a failed top level BCS coach has worked at OU. I saw it as a huge win. A big name to go into a great new stadium in what is a pretty major market near 4 very major markets (Pitt, Cleveland, Cbus and Buffalo)...seems like they have momentum going upward.kdog27 wrote:I think that is pretty good hire. Had some awesome years at Auburn early on there. His name recognition alone will help in recruiting. Bottom of the barrel? Not sure how you figure that.
I would not say Solich failed at Nebraska. He was not Tom Osbourne, whom he replaced, thus they wanted him gone. He was 58-19 @ Nebraska

Re: Akron fires coach
I don't know. It feels to me a little like when Akron hired Gerry Faust. Go for a name to jazz things up.
We did it on a smaller scale with Denny Stoltz, [OU hired Solich] and it's worked out pretty well for them.
Edited to add Solich comment. I meant to type that in my original post, sorry Zete.

About all I remember about Denny Stoltz is him dumping us to take the San Diego ST job and as a result the 51-7 loss in the California Bowl. A game we entered, they say, virtually without a game plan because Denny was elsewhere planning his future. And that was after he proclaimed a 10-0 BGSU as the best team to ever play in the MAC...he was the same as most all of them: Couldn't wait to have a good team and then get the hell out of here.
