Congrats to Toledo....

....the MAC is now 3-1 in bowl games with one to go. Very nice bowl season for the conference. Toledo and Ohio both win by one point.

Have no trouble with AF's decision to go for two, but why the trickery? They have an offense that can move the ball, proved that with a couple 4th down (and at least 2 yards) pick ups on the scoring drive. Why not line it up and go? It's not like you're going up against the '85 Bears defense... or the '95 Bears defense. Or even the '11 BG defense. If you want to win it, why not put your players on the field that have practiced those plays and executed them all season? Fake PAT's are for the first half.

And rah, rah, go MAC, but I still can't pull for the spRockets. And anytime I think I might be able to, for the good of the conference, their band plays the song they know.

I certainly wasn't pulling for tsun. I was Falcons all the way. I don't understand the call on the 2pt attempt, either. And the ut band sounded like dog poop again tonight.

I feel the same way. We were rooting for the FALCONS all the way! We were on our way to Minnesota for the Bemidji hockey games and listened to the game on XM radio. Was highly disappointed the FALCONS didn't pull it out.

I am glad they won. I am so tired of the MAC having awful bowl seasons.

Agreed. This is good for the conference. While it hurts BG to not be in part of the bowl mix as these other MAC schools get the additional bowl practices, gain recruiting edges by being in these games, the extra exposure, most importantly, the actual bowl experience for the players. Since I can't cheer for BG in a bowl, pulling for the other MAC teams is what is left to do.
GO BG!!!

Fine ... I'll say it.

I will never root for Toledo. Ever. I guess Rocket_Fanatic is a better person than I am.

I'm not sure I agree that a Toledo bowl win (or a win for any team) is 'good for the conference.' How exactly is it good? Will these wins give the MAC more bowl bids in the future? No, the only way the MAC gets 5 bids is when there are barely enough eligible teams to fill the bowl slots, and they HAVE to take MAC teams. This is the case in all sports (with the possible exception of volleyball -- apparently, the MAC is a freakin volleyball power conference now).

In basketball, both men's and women's, MAC teams have won NCAA Tournament games. Does it result in more bids the following year? We haven't had 2 women's teams make the tournament since 1995, and we haven't seen 2 men's teams get in since about 1998, IIRC.

So, I'll continue rooting against Toledo in every game, in every sport. I think it's called Schadenfreude, but perhaps Schadenfreude could correct me if I'm wrong. And if hating Toledo is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
