Was just coming on to post about this...even though the name is kind of corny I'm happy to see the athletic department FINALLY doing an active promotion of a hockey series. No excuse for the student section, and the arena in general, to not be entirely full. I'm going to do my best to make it in from Chicago for at least one of these games.

Don't forget the games are Saturday and SUNDAY that weekend. The games were specifically set that way to get more students at the games since they will be returning from break. Sunday is also Skate with the Falcons! Good marketing move by the U!

I'm making sure I get to SBX for orange stuff because I need more "Alumni" gear! I only have one shirt that says "BGSU Alumni" on it.

We'll be up for the triple header that day. Women's hoops vs Akron, Men's hoops vs Ohio and hockey vs the Schmuckeyes. The only problem is the men's game starts at 6 and hockey at 7:05 so we'll have to decide what to do about that.

Looking forward to triple headers on Feb 11th and 25th as well. On the 11th, the women play at tsun at noon so we'll go to that and then drive down to BG for the men's game vs tsun at 4...then hockey. Love days like that.

Nicholas wants to be in the dorm as soon as it opens on Sunday. So we've decided to come up Saturday and catch the hockey team.

But seriously...........why on earth a b-ball game starting @ 6 AND a hockey game same day starting just an hour later? Is there a marketing strategy here that I am missing? :-k

Sports Time Ohio wanted to televise the BG/OU hoops game so the tipoff time was moved from 4 to 6. It sux but I can't change it. LOL. We'll just play it by talon. :-D

The multiple games and close/overlapping game times aren't the issue - IMHO. Dorms don't open up until Sunday at Noon. So there just aren't going to be that many students on campus.

That is the reason the games were moved from Friday/Saturday to Saturday/Sunday to give the students a chance to come to the game on Sunday...or Saturday if they just can't wait to get back to BG!

I think we're the latter.

They could have opened the dorms on Saturday - but not the dining halls. That might have encouraged some students to come back for the games. Classes start Monday.

That costs money. Have to turn the heat up, have electricity costs for the day that need to be budgeted, have the RA's to pay. For the overall financial benefit of the university, bring the students back on Sunday (something tells me the $ people in McFall Center are not paying attention to attendance for athletic events).

Yep - certainly understand that :D.

I think the cost would be minimal. But I think you're dead-on. The bean counters aren't going to see the advantage.

RA's were paid a stipend and reduced housing. So that's a fixed cost. How is it done today? .

I remember the basketball team staying on campus over holidays. Some of the team lived on my floor at Offenhauer. So the heat was still on in the dorms. In fact, I stayed on campus my Junior year for Christmas break and got a job cleaning carpets in the dorms. The dorms were not open.... I stayed off campus at a friends apartment. The dorms were heated during the break. Steam heat.... tough to turn down.

Food-wise, they can use their Falcon accounts to buy food at the games. Open the dorm like...... 3 PM on Saturday. I think it would help those people who have to travel from out-of-state.
