B!G win for BG tonight, 67-57 over the Bobcats. Great great way to start off conference play.
Heading over to bobcatattack now to see the reaction there...heh heh, they probably didn't see this one coming.

When OU came back I thought we might fold...great effort to take control and close them out. What a great win!!!!
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I didn't see the game with the Bengals slowly killing me, but Crawford's line was 5-for-9 FG, 16 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. He did have 6 turnovers. Ohio's two (2) starting guards were a combined 6-for-24 with 18 points. It seems hypercritical to be upset with Crawford today.
Re: This Saturday OHIO @ BGSU
Watched wire to wire. Crawford was very good. Thomas was solid, but didn't really score. The paint belonged to Cam Black. A win is a win, but it seemed very vanilla. Just me?
But 1-0 in the MAC East. I just shake my head with Kent, Akron and Miami yet to come. What is the over/under on MAC West wins over the East? 4? 5?

I will take a vanilla win like that all year long. 4 players in double figures. Thomas with a double double. He and Oglesby were rebounding machines. Crawford's stretch of six points in a row was mindboggling considering he stumbled down the court on one of them. Plus, Crawford got the biggest rebound of the game...in the paint...under the rim...surrounded by big men. The dude was pretty amazing. Calhoun was solid with a nice block at a good time. Holding a team like OU to 38% from the field is pretty good. They were limited to quite a few one and done's.JWEIII wrote:Watched wire to wire. Crawford was very good. Fun game to watch. The Stroh was roaring more than any other game this year.

Rollo's post was obviously at or before halftime. Crawford was terrible in the first half, but had a great 2nd half. Most especially the stretch where we pushed our lead to 13 Crawford has a personal 6-0 run.AyZiggy97 wrote:Rollo83 wrote:Watching Kraus and Crawford at the guards at the same time is down right painful. Our guard play is still what destroys us. We won tonight because we got steady play from Brown and a great 2nd half from Crawford. Unfortunately, they're still both way too inconsistent, the freshmen don't play much, and Kraus is terrible. So long as Crawford & Brown continue to play the bulk of the minutes we NEED more consistency from them. I'm not asking Crawford to play every game the way he played the 2nd half today, but he needs to at least create for his teammates on a consistent basis without turning it over. As good as he was at times tonight he still had more TOs than assists
It's funny as somebody who doesn't get to see any road games, I'd think we were a great team. In fact I think I missed the game we lost and the team is actually undefeated when I've seen them play. They must just be a completely different group on the road.

The hate for Crawford all year by some is something I dont get at all. He is annoying at both ends of the court, tires out the D, runs the offense well and can get his own shot even if he gets swatted a ton because he is so short. The guy gives energy to the entire team. He is a great PG to have and had a great game. Kraus played an active 2 and in his minutes was never a liability. Brown continues to be a pretty active scorer and a threat that must be considered by the defense.
We beat the best team in the MAC. A team that was ranked basically 27 and you are bitching about the guard play when both guards were in double figures and led us in scoring. 29 of our 67 points. I think your standards are a bit too high here.
This team can beat anyone in the MAC.

Also, being a taxi driver in BG, and running last night until 3am, I don't want to hear the crap about how their were no university kids in town. There were hundreds of them - and I mean HUNDREDS -of them uptown last night. Not townies, but real, live and in color, honest to goodness college kids. Most of them when questioned about the win over OU knew nothing about it. Nothing.
I made runs continuously all night to and from the U area: Copper Beach, Enclave I and II, the numbered streets, University Village, etc. etc. Again, most of them knew nothing about it. Some of them immediately turned the subject to OSU basketball.

Zete, you are correct, there were hundreds, probably thousands of OFF CAMPUS students back on Saturday that live in the Enclave, Copper Beach, the numbered streets, and even the apartments behind Hampton Inn, however ON CAMPUS DORMS/, RESIDENCE HALLS including sororoties and fraternites still were closed until 7am this morning. Most of those students probably didn't know about any of the games this weekend because it was marketed very little on campus.

Couldn't agree more HammB. I think we had somewhere between 6 and 7 hundred turnovers as a team in the first half, and it was an ugly half to watch. Crawford was the player of the game hands down last night for his repeated momentum-swinging plays in the second half.
LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!
Re: This Saturday OHIO @ BGSU
I don't hate Crawford at all. I think he is what he is. A VERY inconsistent and limited player that can give tremendous energy and when he's on look amazing. I definitely think we'd be far better off if he was a first guard off the bench than as our starting PG and needing him to be our best guard. Unfortunately, we don't have that luxury. I really love watching Crawford play basketball. I love his heart, his tenacity on defense, his quickness with the ball, etc, etc. But the fact remains that he still has almost as many turnovers as assists. That's horrible for your primary ball handler. If we're going to consistently win he has got to get that ratio closer to 1.5-2.Globetrotter wrote:The hate for Crawford all year by some is something I dont get at all. And sure, I may bitch about Crawford for his inconsistencies, I realize he is still our best guard. Dee Brown is still a streaky/poor shooter that can't really handle the ball, Kraus is beyond terrible on the offensive end, and we still don't really know what the hell to expect from any of the youngsters.
This team will need more consistent guard play if it's going to win the MAC. Yesterday Brown was ok and Crawford was unreal in the 2nd half. That's awesome. But we need more those good moments and a lot less of the looking lost moments if this team is going to go where we want them to go this season.

Re: This Saturday OHIO @ BGSU
The guy can score, defend and run the offense. Does he make too many mistakes and get out of control sometimes? Sure...But the other team needs to check for him on offense and defense the entire game and he exhausts whoever is matched up with him on both sides. The only thing you can ask of him is to be taller and to slow things down and play under control a little more. I think he would be even better if we had a better 2 to go with him. My hope was that was Clarke or Henderson. Clarke has shown flashes of being pretty solid, needs more minutes.hammb wrote: I don't hate Crawford at all. I think he is what he is.
