He graduated from the same high school as myself and Jude Adjei-Barimah.

FWIW, I know the question is for the NFL, but back when I was at BG, I asked Joe Sharp who was the best player he ever saw @ BG and he said Phil V. He said he was just a mean player and in college was better than Lambert.

I remember Doug Smith as well as a kid and was great. I would think either of those 2 players.

I would guess you're thinking of Jeff Groth?

Thanks DH,
Groth is exactly the guy I was thinking of...and had a successful, if brief career with the Saints....again, this shows how little research this guy has done on BG players in the pros.

Bob Reynolds played 12 seasons and was a Pro Bowler three times for the St Louis Cardinals and New England Patroits. 2nd round draft pick.
I remember both of them. Doug Smith was excellent and I'd probably slot him #2 behind Villapiano.

He had to be drunk or on something. Luckily that penalty didn't hurt BG. It almost did.

Of course he was drunk...he's a true Falcon.

It would be Smith or Phil V for me. Doug Smith was a beast for the Rams.

He gets my vote too. I will never forget when he handed me his Super Bowl Ring to look at while we were standing in line to get a beer after the 1992 Vegas Bowl at the after party.

Im surprised Mike Weger hasn't been mentioned. Not only was he a Falcon, but also a Bowling Green Bobcat. Played DB for the Lions for several years along side Lem Barney. If I am not mistaken I think he had three, yes three, interceptions against the Bears one game.

Yeah, forgot about Weger. I'd say he's #3 behind Villipiano and Smith.

Just out of pure curiosity, how do you think Lance Moore of Toledo would rate on their all time best NFL players. Or for another matter, who do you think is the best player ever to come out of the MAC. Big Ben, Randy Moss??? Those are obviously the most recent choices.

I think the current MAC Daddys are James Harrison, Big Ben, Starks (Green Bay), J Cribbs, and SS of the Steelers. And Im sure there are more.

Moore, Taylor and Gradkowski recently get the headlines but a solid case would be made for Kaczur. Starter for the Pats for several years. Emlen Tunnel got the nod but Mel Triplett was a big time back for a few years for the Giants and I'm totally blocking right now but we had a guy who played for St. Louis for years- a center. Williams had some good years for the Broncos and Chiefs as a DT.

But perhaps the best is an underrated Curtis Johnson who started for the great Dolphin teams, including I think, the undefeated one. He played in 3 SBs and won two, played 125 games, 22 interceptions and started 111, including all 14 games his rookie year. He was a fourth round pick and was 6'1", 200 pounds as a CB. He probably would have had gaudier stats but nobody threw his way. He is now a retired fireman in Toledo.
