What about Antonio Gates? I know he isn't a traditional person to think about, but still. Also, most people don't think about linemen, but what about Kory and Scott from BG?

Jack Lambert for best of MAC.

Was Lambert better than Jason Taylor?h2oville rocket wrote:Jack Lambert for best of MAC.
Antonio Gates is going to go down as a top 5 TE of all time, I think, so that is definitely a possibility even though he didn't play a down of MAC football.

Hambb,
I think you're talking about two completely different TYPES of players...Lambert was extremely physical and had a "Mean" reputation... I always thought he loved to have his pic taken with his teeth out...made him look meaner. Taylor certainly has had a long and successful career, but not nearly as physical as Lambert.

Lambert is a HOF'r. DPOY one year. Didn't follow Taylor much but I suspect that casual followers of the NFL immediately recognize Lambert's name. I had to think for a second about Taylor.

I didn't realize Jason Taylor played at Akron. He was a beast on the Defensive Line. Is he actually retired now?

I believe he has announced that he is retiring for good. I think they celebrated him as playing his last NFL game as they closed out their season.footballguy51 wrote:I didn't realize Jason Taylor played at Akron. He was a beast on the Defensive Line. Is he actually retired now?
He was a 6 time pro-bowler, 4 times on the All Pro list (1st or 2nd team). In 2006 he was the NFL Defensive Player of the year. He is the all time sack leader for the Dolphins despite stints with the Redskins and the Jets. He retires as #6 in sacks all time. Yeah he's not a big NAME like Lambert, but he is without a doubt one of the top pass rushers of all time. He's also a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer.
I realize that Lambert is a big name and everybody knows him. But that doesn't make him a better "player". I also realize they're 2 completely different players in completely different eras. I was just curious if there was anybody that had seen both of them that could compare.
In my lifetime I think Jason Taylor is the best player from the MAC. I think Big Ben, Randy Moss, and Gates are right there in the next group.
