BleedOrange wrote:Well, this is the worst performance of JC's career, and this game is probably weighing on him like a grand piano. Hopefully, this was a bottom and might be a turning point where JC stops, reassesses, and decides to change his approach to running point.

JC's mistakes were mental, errors of commission, and he can fix them. We've seen his determination, quickness, and willingness to make things happen. JC hit the shot that sealed the game against Temple and he played excellently at Michigan State. I predict that we'll see a new JC against Kent.
Of course we'll see a different JC against KSU. Then we'll see a different one when we play Buffalo, a different one when we play Miami, etc, etc.

The guy is Jekyll and Hyde and the only thing you can REALLY count on him for is turnovers. Even when he's good he'll turn it over. Night in night out we have no clue what we'll get from these guards and THAT is why we're mediocre. He can be great one game (and he most certainly was dominant in the 2nd half against OU), then play the worst game of his career 4 days later. You can't build a good team around that.

Yeah, he wasn't in the restricted area, but the problem was that he didn't stay straight up. He started leaning back, likely anticipating hte contact so it made it look like he didn't get run into as hard.

Well I was wrong, his foot wasn't in the arch. When I saw it live I thought it was but must been the MAC logo I was thinking his foot was behind. But it does look like Cam is leaning backwards slightly before the ball handler made contact. The one thing I would have liked to seen was BG just go for win and take its last shot with a second or two remaining. I know its a gamble but I would still take that option instead of giving the ball back to them. I know when we had Daniels and Stacey coach Dakich would have went for the last shot at the buzzer.

I drove home last night swearing up and down that there should have been a charge called on the final play. However, after watching the replay about a dozen times, I do NOT envy the referee(s) that had to make that call. I hate to say it but STANDALONE it was probably a good no-call. Not enough contact IMO. However, that was being called a charge throughout the game so I can definitely understand Louis's and EVERY BG fan's frustration. However, can't take much away from Harney as that was a very impressive shot to win the game.

More notes:
What angered me the most about the officiating was how BG could not buy a hand check foul against Akron when there were 3 or 4 called on BG in the second half alone. When we finally did get one, it was when Clarke missed that front end late with the game tied I believe. Jehvon Clarke had Calhoun wide open underneath and they finally blew the whistle as he was making the pass. I looked to my dad at that moment and said "that's the best thing that could've happened to Akron, to put a freshman on the line in this situation." To me, that was the scond biggest play in the game.

As bad as Crawford's game was, I will say that at least 3 or 4 of those TO's in the 1st half were not his fault. Normally, in a pick and roll, it's reasonable for a PG to expect his big guy to, well, ROLL. He threw a couple out of bounds in the first half because either Calhoun or Ogelsby were either late or absent on the roll. Now, that said, what concerned me the most about Crawford in this game was his defense. That went to hell in the second half as well. After his 4th consecutive TO, he got TORCHED to the basket and it resulted in Cam Black's 4th foul.

What jumped out at me the most about this game though is that we should have beat a team that is LEAPS AND BOUNDS ahead of us, talent-wise. Harney, Diggs, and Treadwell all COME OFF THE BENCH for them. Either one of those guys would probably be the first or second best athlete on our entire team. Gotta hand it to our guys for battling, but that was a must win given the circumstances. If that team gets it together (face it, they looked sluggish), they are going to be one tough out in March.

Yep, that's what I was thinking too. Like Black didn't want to be too aggressive and get a fould called on him so he was a little passive. I think that is why the refs didn't make the call.

Hey don't be blaming me for the shoddy officiating or the fact that BG couldn't hit their free throws!

I don't think any one blames you for anything...your sphere of influence is pretty limited...

I read that not only was that our 8th consecutive loss at home to Akron (obviously knew that with the title of this thread), but it also our 14th loss to Akron in the last 15 meetings?!?!?! Holy $hit!!! That should NEVER be happening to us against another school in the MAC. Never, ever, ever. Games like this are exactly what is holdig us back from moving up in conference. It's also another reason why we will continue to struggle to get people to come. We've only won back-to-back games once all season. We just need to win! Plain and simple.

Yep. 1-14 vs Akron in the last 15 and I was at the lone win at Akron a couple years ago, 50-46. I can't believe we can't beat this team these days.
