Former Pitt RB recruit Andre Givens enrolled at BG
Former Pitt RB recruit Andre Givens enrolled at BG
I hope this means he'll be suiting up for us next fall! Per John Wagner's blog:
Givens enrolled at BGSU
Andre Givens, one of the more highly regarded high school running backs in the recruiting class of 2010, is enrolled at Bowling Green.
Givens is a graduate of Hubbard High School who originally signed a national letter of intent with Pittsburgh in 2010. He is enrolled at BG, football SID Dave Meyer confirmed Tuesday, but is not on the roster and does not practice with the team.
Givens was considered one of the top running backs in the state of Ohio during his recruitment. While Givens signed with Pitt, he instead enrolled at Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y. He saw limited action with Milford, playing both offense and defense.
As a senior at Hubbard High School in 2009, Givens ran for 925 yards and scored 21 touchdowns despite playing in just nine games after an injury.
He also played outside linebacker and had 35 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack as a senior. As a result, Givens was named to the All-Northeast Inland All-District team and also was All-Trumbull County and All-American Athletic Conference first team.
In 2009 Givens led Hubbard to a 10-2 record, the American Athletic Conference championship and the regional semifinals of the Ohio Division III playoffs.
The 5-10, 185-pound Givens ran for 2,358 yards over his final two seasons at Hubbard. As a junior, he rushed for 1,433 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Eagles went a combined 26-9 (.743) during his three seasons as a varsity starter.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Well, what does he run the 40 in for starters. What is going on in the class room? And quite honestly running for just over 100 yards per game at the DIII HS level may not mean he is going to be All MAC by his Soph year.

Who said anything about being All-MAC by then, do we really need him to be an All-MAC running back by then, I mean we already got one of thosezete wrote:Well, what does he run the 40 in for starters. I feel like you are joking , however I'm so sick of this 3 star 4 start garbage by these recruiting sights .. These jokers rate these high school kids 2 3 and 4 stars and people take it as a guarantee that they will be all Americans in college because some ass clown gave him 4 stars.. Let's see how many 4 star recruits Boise state , tcu, Wisconsin, virginia tech , Missouri , northern Illinois get every year and yet they win 9-10 games every year.. It's all nonsense...

Sure, you don't HAVE to have 3 and 4 star recruits to win 9 or 10 games, but it sure does help!!

If you go back and look over the past 10 years, you'll find that *** guys have flamed out here way more frequently than not.

High school football in Youngstown is very strong. Not sure why the thread seems negative about Givens. Why is it bad that he enrolled at BG?
If he can help out BG and help himself, that is a good thing.

Theres a nice article in ESPN Mag on Rushel Shel the incoming Pitt RB. I dont know if the rumors were going around last year, but Im sure givens saw the writing on the wall. Either way I think both programs are happy with the situation.

Looks like he'll be on the team next year. We're giving him a scholarship.
