Watching the OU game to see if maybe my man crush on Crawford is unfounded and I dont think it is. I do think that we might just have the dumbest and laziest team I have ever seen. They make the same mental errors over and over again. From being out of position on Defense to dumb passes on offense, we just seem like a team happy to have a Division 1 basketball scholarship. We go through the motions and that is about it.

Hmm. I guess I agree but he can't drive the lane and look to dish first, otherwise he is not a threat and the defense collapses on the bigs and ignores him. He has to be a threat first.Flipper wrote:Watch him when he drives the lane....he's looking for his shot first..not a dish to a big. I'm not looking solely at numbers I'm looking at his approach to the game.

What is this "Athleticism" that you speak of? Just because Oglesby and Calhoun have a flashy dunk every once in awhile doesn't mean this team is loaded with athleticism. I mentioned it before: Akron has 3 guys ON THEIR BENCH that would come in and be our top athlete (Diggs, Harney, Treadwell). Dee Brown might be the slowest starting guard I've ever seen in the MAC. Scott Thomas is a very good basketball player, but let's face it, you win the MAC when you have a Scott Thomas as your 4th, 5th, 6th best player. You finish in the middle of the pack when you have a Scott Thomas as your first or second best player. We should stop expecting this team to be world beaters. Bowling Green is a middle-of-the-pack MAC team this year. We are going to have some good wins and we are going to have some bad losses, and like it or not that's just the way it is.Globetrotter wrote:I still think you are underrating what he brings to the table. He is a headache for the other team on both sides of the ball and a ridiculous ball handler. At many times tonight we saw what will basically be our starting lineup next year with Clarke-Crawford-Thomas-Calhoun and Black (probably with Sealy in place of Thomas).
The players seem unprepared and the offense is atrocious for the athleticism we have. Time to move on.
However, on the bright side, we have not been blown out in a single MAC game this year, and have shown that we legitimately can beat any team in this league on a given night. I'm definitely not ready to give up on this team yet. WE CAN WIN THE CONFERENCE, but we dont have nearly enough talent to make this a "championship or bust" season.
LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!

Probably overstating things but I think Crawford, Sealey and Clarke are stud athletes as well and Orr and Henderson arent too shabby from what I have seen. The only guys who I dont think are great athletes are Kraus, Black, Brown and ThomasMatty B wrote:What is this "Athleticism" that you speak of? I won't argue about the lack of basketball IQ on this team. Of our top players only Scott Thomas seems to be an even remotely intelligent player. Crawford plays completely out of control at times and is careless with the ball, the passes some of the guys make leave me completely baffled, and the (at times) insanely stupid fouls from our bigs is still mind-boggling.Globetrotter wrote:Watching the OU game to see if maybe my man crush on Crawford is unfounded and I dont think it is. There is no doubt that we are NOT a smart basketball team, and that's an indictment on the coaching staff, IMO.
As for the athleticism, I think we're overall a pretty athletic team. Not the most athletic MAC team I've ever seen, but light year's ahead of the athleticism we saw in the final Dakich/early Orr years. Some of those teams I wasn't sure if more than 1-2 guys on the team could even dunk...and if they could we rarely ever saw it during a game. What I still think we lack is guys that can actually translate their athleticism into basketball skills. We've got some guys that can run or jump, but only crawford is an above average ball handler, and his size and lack of court vision limit his ability to use that skill. Clarke is the ONE guard I've seen who MIGHT be able to actually beat people off the dribble and either finish/dish. In what little I've seen he looks like the best passer on the team, too.
For the life of me I cannot figure out why Clarke isn't the lock solid #3 guard (and playing upwards of 15 mins a game) I'll never understand. He's shown flashes of potentially being better than our top 2 guards anyway, we should at least be giving him playing time to see what he's got and help him develop. Even with Crawford & Brown playing 30 mins a game that leaves 20 mins of guard time, and a good portion of those should be going to Clarke (and I don't necessarily think either Crawford OR Brown should be playing 30 mpg).

The second half of last game Clarke was in and Brown was sitting and I don't think he as in foul trouble (?). Hopefully we see alot more of thathammb wrote:I won't argue about the lack of basketball IQ on this team. Of our top players only Scott Thomas seems to be an even remotely intelligent player.
