Great news! This should easily offset the loss of Geiger transferring and I am excited to see what both Givens (Pitt) and Stokes (Michigan) bring to the table next season. Givens had offers from places such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Michigan State to name a few while Stokes was a 4-star recruit with offers from schools such as Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Penn State, Iowa, Illinois and NC State.bgdodgeball4 wrote:Looks like he'll be on the team next year. Givens has great acceleration...like he takes two strides and he's in high gear acceleration.

(from some 0su site back when was Andre being recruited)
Speedy Ohio running back decides on Pitt
Buzz up!By Kevin Gorman, TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Saturday, July 25, 2009
Andre Givens was heavily recruited by Big Ten schools, but the Hubbard (Ohio) running back knew he was destined to play in the Big East.
"The Big Ten has big backs and big lineman. It's not as fast as the Big East Conference," Givens said. "I want to be somewhere that plays fast. I felt Pitt was right."
Givens gave a verbal commitment to the Panthers on Friday, picking Pitt over the likes of fellow Big East programs Cincinnati, Louisville and Syracuse. He had 17 scholarship offers, including Buffalo, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Givens, a two-year starter, rushed for 1,433 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior, averaging 6.6 yards a carry, and is regarded as one of Ohio's top running backs. Rivals.com ranks Givens as the nation's No. 32 tailback prospect; Scout.com ranks him No. 54.
"I'm shifty. I can cut on a dime at top speed," said Givens, who has been timed at 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash and at 10.89 seconds in the 100. "I'm getting bigger and stronger and trying to be an all-around back."

Givens tape....it might be the most impressive "signee day" vid I've seen here.....Samuel..Givens...Hopgood..Martin with the Chief anchoring an improved line. I don't think we're gping to have problems running the ball next year...

I apologize if this has been addressed somewhere, but has it been clearly stated why Givens is no longer enrolled at Pitt?

Re: Former Pitt RB recruit Andre Givens enrolled at BG
Sounds like it was grades at Pitt.
I believe Pitt had a coaching change about that time too and he may have gotten lost in that shuffle. (but don't quote me).
He entered Milford Academy in NY after the Pitt 'signing' and saw 'limited action' there on O and D. (He was starting OLB & RB at Hubbard HS , he also lettered 3 years in track)
This from some Pitt Script info: (referring to which RB may play at Pitt) . . . . "It certainly won’t be Andre Givens, who will be enrolling in prep school after failing to get his grades in order. With Pitt’s running back recruiting and the standard of over-recruiting, I do wonder if we’ll ever see Mr. Givens in the blue and gold."
I "think" our staff probably suggested/offered him to get in class at BG and if he did well, we might get him a scholly.

Coach Clawson stated Chief is already one of the strongest players on the roster...he was a man among boys at the JC level. With him at Center, this will allow Chip R to move back to his normal position.Flipper wrote:Givens tape....it might be the most impressive "signee day" vid I've seen here.....Samuel..Givens...Hopgood..Martin with the Chief anchoring an improved line. I didn't see him block, but if he can or does, that is the COMPLETE package, in my book.

Flip,
The coach's comments on Givens were, in essence, "perhaps the best hi-lite tape we've ever seen"....they only showed about 4-5 plays per kid, but I teased Falconfan1 that they'd "sped up" the tape on this kid...NOW... If he gets grades in order, and supposedly he is, we've got a PLAYER!
BTW, I don't think he ever actually WENT to Pitt...wound up at that prep school from my understanding,, and then came to BG, perhaps as early as 2nd semester last year, though that wasn't made clear.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
Re: Former Pitt RB recruit Andre Givens enrolled at BG
Exciting to think about Givens, Samuel, and Stokes all being on the field at the same time.
