Again:
In the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), a show-cause penalty is an order saying that for a set period of time, any NCAA penalties imposed on a coach involved in major rules violations at a university's athletic program will remain in force if he is hired by any other NCAA member institution. Both the school and coach are required to send letters to the NCAA agreeing to abide by any restrictions imposed, and report back to the NCAA every 6 months until the end of employment or the show-cause, whichever comes first. If the school wishes to avoid the NCAA restrictions imposed on that individual, it must appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions and "show cause" as to why it should not be penalized for hiring him.[1]
Contrary to popular belief, an NCAA member school is allowed to hire a coach with a show-cause order outstanding. However, as mentioned above, any school that hires a coach with a show-cause order in effect can be penalized merely for doing so. Additionally, that school can face severe penalties if a coach commits another violation during the length of the penalty.[2] Consequently, most schools will not even consider hiring a coach with a show-cause penalty in effect. For this reason, a show-cause penalty usually has the effect of blackballing a coach from the collegiate ranks for the duration of the penalty. Many coaches who are given such a penalty never coach again, even after the expiration of the penalty. The penalty is intended to follow a coach for violations that he had a role in committing.
Why would you want to hire someone with all this baggage? Secondly you are assuming he would want to coach here.

I say again ... Quit fantasizing about Tressel. Nobody wants anything to do with that man, his cheats, his lies, and his corruption anywhere near our beloved Alma Mater.MarkL wrote:Quit fantasizing about Tressel. I'm guessing you did the Disney College Program and spent most of your time in the Goofy suit.Globetrotter wrote:Most people I talk to on the topic off this board are less traditional and dare I say self righteous. It was a perfect storm for us to have elite football played at BG and I think we squandered it.
Call us self-righteous if you want, but even the NCAA said that what he did was wrong. And in fact, they said it was so wrong, that he should not be allowed to do what he loved to do for a period of FIVE years!!!
I don't work for Ohio State but even I could tell you EXACTLY what he should have done -
1. Hit the FORWARD button on the e-mail and forward it to the Compliance Department, or
2. Hit the PRINT button, got up from the chair, retrieved the copy, and walked it down to the Compliance Department
Had he done EITHER of those two things, he would be the head football coach at OSU today.
We're self-righteous?
Why didn't Notre Dame hire him as the head football coach?
Why didn't Liberty University hire as the head football coach?
Why didn't Duke hire him as the head football coach?

Goofy suit? I went to BG like I imagine most people on here. Did they have that major? That would have been sweet. I know they have popular culture.transfer2BGSU wrote:I'm guessing you did the Disney College Program and spent most of your time in the Goofy suit.Globetrotter wrote:Most people I talk to on the topic off this board are less traditional and dare I say self righteous. I think its self righteous to think that nothing like the OSU scandal could ever happen here. That we are so perfect that we dare not tarnish this image even if it might mean taking our program to heights that are unimaginable right now. With Jim Tressell as head coach we are not having discussions about attendance or if we should go down to Division 2 or FCS or whatever it is.
I do agree with your points on he might not even want to come here. And it might not be wise in the next 4 years. But if he did I would take him.

Are tattoo parlors in BG likely to give free tattoos for football tickets that they can get for practically free on game day?
Do players receive "gold pants" charms that rich alumni are willing to pay thousands for?
Is the value of a BG game-worn jersey such that the holder is able to sell it for extra-normal profits?
Are we in such demand for bowl games that our coach would cover up such infractions?
Don't get me wrong, I don't say we can or will never have any sort of scandal, but I just can't come up with a rational set of circumstances that would create one like tOSU.
Oh, and one more thing. Tressel's a scum-bag.

It is the exact same thing OSU fans were saying before the collapse. The world is flat!Lord_Byron wrote:Globetrotter wrote: Don't get me wrong, I don't say we can or will never have any sort of scandal, but I just can't come up with a rational set of circumstances that would create one like tOSU.

Why do you seriously have to be so constantly argumentative?

Constantly argumentative? Go back and read this thread Pot. I stated what I thought and then you began the argument. I didn't even bring up Tressel.

We suffered through a scandal caused by members of this very board a few years ago. Suffice to say, we never want to go through Hotdog-gate again.

I hope a MAC team rises up and takes OSUs head off in the Horseshoe. OSU fans leave the stadium crying and UM gives up coaching only to resurface at Kent as a consultant to the athletic dept at 225K per.
