FalconTurf wrote:My gosh, Crawford is not NBA material but causes difficulty one-on-one vs. a point, quick hands helping on defense and handles the ball fairly well when nobody is open often due to a lack of movement by others on the team. I'll admit he forces things - passes and penetration to the basket. And yes he dribbles a lot - as would be expected by a guard that runs a lot of pick-and-roll on offense.

As always we have a team of players that don't have complete games - some less than others. Accept these guys for what they are and you may just enjoy their competitive nature and the fact they are currently on a fairly decent roll in the West swing.

Really enjoyed seeing Thomas up front in the 3/4-court press. His anticipation of passes is great despite not having the best lateral quickness in the conference. Calhoun was a beast posting up despite a travel or two. And Oglesby's presence around the basket was awesome despite his touch at the line. Despite the flaws I really enjoy this team. Wish there were 4,800 people that enjoyed them every home Saturday like me because a full Stroh is wonderful.
Sorry, but I am not exactly content to sit back and "enjoy" another .500 season...or so. I am happy we have put a few victories together but when are we going to put "a season" together? When are we going to win the MAC? When are we going to make it to the NCAA Tournament?

The blame has to stop at the coaches office. We have a few nice players but we are about a couple guards away from being a legitament threat to someone. Why can't BG recruit a 2-guard that can shoot the ball? Why can't we recruit a point guard that we can give the ball to and feel good about it?

I've been following the Falcons since the early 1970's and I am frustrated. I was in Anderson in 1982 when all we had to do was beat OU and we were going dancing...only to go back to my dorm room devistated after a 72-71 loss.

I am tired of simply being competitive!

Great win and lots of fun. So happy to see us be able to come back and win that one. It seemed every time we made a run at it UT had an answer. The free throw shooting for us was downright scary, but fortunately we were able to make up for it in other areas. Great crowd, great to see a student section that resembled a student section, and most of all, great win.

Crawford absolutely drives me crazy. His 1st half stats 1-7 2 turnovers and 1 assist. However, in the 2nd half he was 2-6 and got a key steal in the backcourt toward the end of the game. I get really pizzed when the ball is in his hands with 10 seconds on the shot clock. First of all, why are we in that situation and why is the short man holding the ball with 10 seconds left? That's where he gets swatted down by just about everybody on the court.

I am not sure he got swatted once in the last 30 minutes in that situation. He is the only guy we have on our team that can get a shot in that situation and he did great tonight getting shots in that very situation. They did not always go but they got us a fresh clock or a nice putback from a big. Attack the basket and good things come. I can't name a time he got swatted tonight.

HE WAS SO GREAT AND WAS 3-13. STOP HAVING YOUR MAN CRUSH ON HIM. 4 SEPARATE PEOPLE ALONE IN THIS THREAD ALL AGREE BE HAD AN ABYSMAL GAME. TRUE HE MAY NOT HAVE HAD HIS SHOT SWATTED AWAY, BUT HE MISSED 6 LAYUPS IN THE GAME GOING AGAINST THE DEFENDER. THAT'S THE SAME AS BEING SWATHED AWAY. HE MADE THE BREAKAWAY. ALSO, ON DEFENSE HE GAVE UP SEVEN 3-POINTERS. UT WAS ABLE TO SHOOT OVER HIM. I LIKE CRAWFORD BUT JUST BEING REALISTIC. WILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT FREAK, FLIPPER AND HAMMB HAVE TO SAY.

I will weigh in here- I love Crawford. I desperately hope you keep playing him at the point. that having been said his herky jerky style and poor shooting does draw multiple defenders at times and yesterday your big guys cleaned up because no one was blocking them out on his bad shots. That won't work against buffalo, Kent or Akron but against teams with less accomplished big men you guys should get a ton of offensive rebounds.

He is not perfect but he certainly is not nearly as bad as you are suggesting and yesterday was not even close to won of his worst games. He will be our PG for the next 40 some games and he will finish his career as one of the tops all time at BG in both steals and assists. That's good enough for me. The only time I have a problem with him is when he makes a series of bonehead plays which I don't think he did yesterday. We won, in a ridiculously exciting game in a way that will likely resonate to more wins down the road. We also won this exciting game in front of a packed house which will likely translate into more butts in seats down the road. I am more then happy with the result. I feel like some of you guys really wanted the Red new bike for Christmas and got the Blue one and now you are ignoring the sweet new bike that you have.

I am guessing he was awful in the first ten minutes that I missed because I did not see it the rest of the game.

He is also shooting 43% from the field, whih for a guard that is not bad at all.

Personally i thought crawford was his typical self. Can't finish in traffic and makes terrible decisions with the ball. I felt the same about him yesterday as i usually do
He is mediocre at best and cannot be counted on to lead a team if you want to be a good mac team. Unfortunately i also think he's the best pg we have had since Pardon...which is more sad than anything.

Sorry I also don't think Crawford is totally awful yet not as close to 1st team MAC as I would like either. We've got a nice team, not a great team. I'll enjoy watching them while hoping the future will bring more and hold the hope that maybe, just maybe, a team like this can get hot for one weekend in Cleveland as unlikely as that may seem.

Go Falcons!
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

I was fine with Crawford's play in the second half. We knew we had a monster rebounding advantage, and so OUR BEST OFFENSE WAS A MISSED SHOT! 21 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS!! Every time he missed a layup, it got at least 1 extra defender out of position and we had a ton of easy putbacks on these. It wouldn't shock me if Orr told Crawford "draw an extra defender and put it on the rim" every time down. Bob Huggins is notorious for doing that when he knows his team has a rebounding edge.

Yeah, it'd be nice if Crawford would cut down on the turnovers, but the steals (4 vs UT) and hustle plays help to offset them. He had a HUGE steal late and it's not the first game he's done that for us. He may not be all-MAC, but he does fall in to that "x-factor" category of players where he has the ability to singlehandedly change the outcome of games. He may not be the "safe" PG that everyone seems to want, but he's a hell of a lot more fun to watch than John Floyd or Joe Jakubowski.

And he is a headache for the man he is guarding and the guy guarding him.
