Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
I hope so! We belong in the East. Only problem is now we would be back at 13 teams and the screwy schedule again.

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
No. We'll be in the West until Toledo and Northern start to slide toward the bottom of the pack. By then Miami and Akron will be good again and we'll move back to the East.footballguy51 wrote:Does this mean we are going back to the East for football?![]()

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
As far as Temple goes, the article mentions a 2.5 Mill "buyout" to leave with TWO years notice...I'd either say Screw YOU Temple...and wait til 2013....or pay us 1 Mil APIECE to leave...If the BE wouldn't come up with the 10 mill., how would they feel about THIRTEEN MILL.? (assuming that UMASS actually DOES come on board?

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
It's the MAC we're talking about. If the buyout with two years of notice is $2.5 million, the buyout with less than two years notice is probably 0.

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
Can you blame them? Why would they want to stick around our league? Tim Beckman left didn't he? Most or the head coaches and teams in positions like Marshall,CFU and Temple don't want to be in our league. Thus, they leave first good opportunity that arises. No surprise.

Exactly....And if this move happens, it goes right back to why I get tired of our conference bending over backwards to take care of affiliate members over the core members. I hope they do leave (right now), move us back to the East, and let us contend for the East in 2012.Falcon137 wrote:No. We'll be in the West until Toledo and Northern start to slide toward the bottom of the pack. Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
Raise your hand if you would miss Temple. (I know some that live in Eastern PA might) The MAC tried to expand their footprint with Temple, and it didn't work very well. Now with CUSA and MWest teaming up the MAC will get pushed further down. I would love to see us work a deal with the Sun Belt, and maybe attract some attention from the football loving south.

So...after saying it was a bad idea for the MAC to expand their footprint you want the MAC to expand their footprint? Or are you suggesting a scheduling agreement similar to what the Big10 and PAC12 are doing?daspollak wrote:Raise your hand if you would miss Temple. You know what?....F**k Temple...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
I don't blame or point the finger at Temple at all, this goes right back to the MAC IMO. Is anyone even surprised this could be happening? I sure as heck am not. We all talked about this likely happening a few years ago. Temple needed a home, the MAC let them come in for football only while throwing in some non- conference basketball games, and they look like they are done wiping their feet on the MAC. Many of us saw this Likely going to happen back with Marshall and no doubt with UCF, and many saw this with Temple. Don't think for a minute UMass won't be doing the same thing at some point as well. I would be more than happy to see us go back to our core 12 members - for ALL sports. If the right fit came up down the road for FULL time members to go back up to 14, then fine. But if not, let's focus on our core members and do what's best for them.

Where is UMass going to go? Everyone fears them jumping somewhere, but, where? The Big East isn't inviting them anytime soon, Villanova would go to FBS before UMass got a sniff.BGSU33 wrote:I don't blame or point the finger at Temple at all, this goes right back to the MAC IMO. They could look at this new "Alliance" conference. Seems like a lateral move from the MAC, though. Especially once ESPN doesn't want them and they sign with CBS College Sports and divide the money 16 or 18 ways.
They are happy in the A10, unlike Temple who ALWAYS wanted in the Big East.
To me, the most likely scenario is this-
The Non-football Big East schools will eventually break off. ND, Marquette, Georgetown, Providence, maybe Villanova, St. Johns, Seton Hall.
Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis have always wanted to join that group. They would be gone in a heartbeat from the A10.
The A10 is left with St. Joes, LaSalle and a bunch of bottom feeder A10 schools.
If that happened the MAC would look pretty attractive as an all sports option for UMass.
It could be far fetched. But, I see that happening before UMass jumps from the MAC.

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
The MAC wouldn't be expanding their footprint, it could be a nice working relationship with the Sun Belt. If I were the commish here is what I would do. Let all MAC teams schedule two OOC games. This is there chance to pick a pay day game. If we had an agreement with the Sun Belt the other two OOC games would be a home game vs. the Sun Belt and an away game vs. them as well. Have your 8 game MAC schedule, have the MAC Championship, and the MAC Champion plays the Sun Belt Champ in another Championship game. Now the NCAA may not go for the second championship game, but if there is money to made made they would jump on it.
