Coach Orr Pros and Cons
I am on the let him go bandwagon but I don't have a torch nor am I headed to the Stroh with pitchforks. I think he seems like a really great man, a quality coach and he seems to be able to create a slightly above average team. The negatives are the offensive game plan, the development of players, the discipline/wisdom of players on the court and his substitution patterns.
I know that he is signed for 2 more years but I really think its time of a change. Just mediocre basketball the last decade. Better then horrible basketball but not good enough IMO.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Coach Orr Pros and Cons
Coaches don't always care about their players as people...I think he genuinely cares about his players. I think his players believe in him 100%. I don't know if he's the best judge of talent...we seem to bo overloaded with 6-2 or smaller guards with questionable ball skills, post players with limited offensive games and forwards with an inability to score from 15ft out consistently. How we haven't managed to recruit a 6-5" to 6-8" wing with a shooting touch when the HC and one of his aasisrtants filled that role at major universities and the NBA is beyond me.
As others have noted...guys don't seem to improve under him. That's a problem when you're recrutiing guys that are largey viewed as "projects" in one sense or another.

Until he is gone, Coach Orr is my coach. I fully support him. No bandwagon.

Re: Coach Orr Pros and Cons
What fascinates me is that Orr was more successful at Seton Hall than he has been at BG. Jim Larranaga was vastly more successful at George Mason then at BG and is now a head coach in the ACC. Now, why is this? Also, the best BG teams that we've seen since the early 80's were coached by DD1. What's more, we have have very few, if any, really terrible seasons. IMHO, all three of these guys are good Division 1 coaches worthy of our respect.
So, we've had three proven coaches come here and fall flat. Is it just them? Could this consistent mediocrity be based in part on the overall university environment? Perhaps the issue is bigger than the coaches themselves? Just a thought.

That's fair...discussions like this should probably be left for after the season ends...transfer2BGSU wrote:Until he is gone, Coach Orr is my coach. I fully support him. No bandwagon.

We have been talking about this for months in various threads and this is the first I have lead the disucssion. Might as well have one compliation thread.Flipper wrote:That's fair...discussions like this should probably be left for after the season ends...transfer2BGSU wrote:Until he is gone, Coach Orr is my coach. If he gets fired he is going to get fired immediately following the season so if we are going to talk about it, it needs to be before that happens.

So should discussions about roster line ups and where will our points come from. Can we finish the 2011-2012 season before we think about 2012-2013. Lol

You follow the team for your reasons I do for mine. Trying to prescribe your interests to everyone else is not wise.gmartin wrote:Flipper wrote:That's fair...discussions like this should probably be left for after the season ends...transfer2BGSU wrote:Until he is gone, Coach Orr is my coach. Re: Coach Orr Pros and Cons
My 2 cents:
I'm on record as pro Coach Orr. This team is "in the mix" in a very tough MAC East. And they really are fun to watch. I really think this is one of the more athletic and explosive teams I can remember. We are a game behind OU and Kent. If OU didn't pee down their leg on national TV (funny) we would be right there.
At the begenning of season, if you would have been selling 9 or 10 conference wins, we all would have been buying. Right? The MAC East is just stacked.
Globe - you are calling for 20 wins and you want to ax the coach? (although I can't tell if you are serious about the 20 win thang).
Love this team.

Re: Coach Orr Pros and Cons
They very well might win 20 games. In spite of the coach.
I watch their offense and have no idea what they are even trying to do. We play undisciplined and the rotation is just odd.

Re: Coach Orr Pros and Cons
And I have no idea what your trying to say. Your more confusing than my bi-polar dog. One day your praising the team and talking about 20 wins, and yes earlier in the MAC season you were behind the coaching staff. You think Crawford is above average. You think CAM is an elite center. And now you predict 4 more wins and want Orr to be let go. Talk about confusing???Globetrotter wrote:They very well might win 20 games. In spite of the coach.
