BACK TO THE EAST!
http://www.mac-sports.com/News/tabid/96 ... hdraw.aspx
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced today in conjunction with Temple University that the two parties have reached an agreement for Temple to leave the Conference immediately. Temple spent five seasons (2007-11) with the Conference.
Statement from MAC Commissioner, Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher regarding Temple:
“Temple University requested to be released from its obligation, as a football-only member of providing two season’s prior notice before departing the Mid-American Conference. As a result the Conference and its member institutions engaged in a dialogue with Temple regarding an appropriate resolution. We have come to an agreement that is fair to the parties involved.”
“As a result, the Mid-American Conference has adjusted its football divisional alignment. Bowling Green State University will compete in the East Division that will consist of seven member institutions. The West Division will have six members. The eight-game Conference schedule should be released within several weeks.”
Additional Information:
-The negotiated exit fee for Temple to leave the Mid-American Conference is $6 million.
-2012 MAC Football Divisional Alignment
East Division: Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, UMass, Miami, Ohio
West Division: Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan.
-Since 2007, the MAC has operated under a 13-member football membership model.

I hope the door hits them in the AZZ on the way out. I have HATED their presence in the MAC from day 1. Some will disagree but this deal has brought nothing to the MAC. We are MUCH better off without them and I don't really care if we go back to the east. Now if we can only get UMass to be all in...

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
While I am happy Temple is gone, now there's this feeling of "Well, we're back where we are." I hate the 13-team setup, and in my opinion, it's indefensible as a conference to have this again. I know it was tougher to predict this time, but now I think we need to tell UMass to get "all in" or not. If they are in, then begin the search for a 14th. If they are not, then let them go in two years.
I believe there was a stipulation that if Temple left, UMass and and MAC would split after two years, or something to that effect. I will have to look.

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
It is xmas early this year! I'm glad they are gone, and obviously I've been basically hating them since the day the MAC screwed up by inviting them. It was a mistake to invite them, they did nothing for the league, and now they are gone. At least they didn't win the MAC while they were here.
13 teams is a mess. Let us hope they invite somebody that fits the league, and don't whore out the MAC for the illusion of improving media footprints. The MAC has fallen a long way since the giant killer days we knew. Either we need to get smaller, get back to local basics, or get way bigger, and seek safety in numbers.
Either way, lets flush the mid-week games and obsession with TV coverage. Get things online and innovate. Quit whoring everything to ESPN.

Next to be announced- BGSU will play Buffalo, Kent, Miami and Ohio, their crossover games will be Northern Illinois and Toledo.
I say that in jest.....kind of.

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
I wonder how UMass is feeling about joining the MAC now. With them being in the A-10 with Temple, they were a natural football rivals. Now the closest other school is 400 miles away.

I think they test the waters, get up to speed, and get out as soon as they can. A viable football playing UMass isn't going to stay any longer than Temple wanted too.Warthog wrote:I wonder how UMass is feeling about joining the MAC now. Again, either the MAC has to get small again, go back to basics. Or it has to embrace the madness and go big. And I don't just mean in size.

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
This is GREAT news! Now hey MAC, stop messing with us! Leave us alone, move someone else next time. The best part about this IMO is we get a new schedule. I didn't like the one we had at all. Looking forward to it. I wonder if the UMass game will be home or away. Also, I am pegging BG as #2 in the East with a good shot at a bowl game this year. This move helps us out much more than staying in the West.

We should be at Akron this year...last game against them was 2009 at BG.Falconfreak90 wrote:WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!! FALCON SCREECHES ALL OVER THE PLACE. Back in the East where we belong.

GO FOOTBALL
away - Akron, Ohio
home - Kent, Miami, Buffalo
Assuming we play all East teams, that means Umass will likely be away...the two west teams split, most likely Toledo away and a team to be named later at home.
In other news, great news for BG getting to move back to the East Division. Moving to the west would've sucked.

Wonder how that $6 million gets used? Is it put into the MAC operation budget, or distributed to member schools?

Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
Well if they decide that 6 mill over the 13 schools I know what I would do with the 400k. We could use that money to buy out a certain coaches contract in another sport. Just my own thought. Who would have thought that Temple leaving could help us get a new basketball coach. Lol
Re: Temple Heading to the Big East??????
I think that they should give half to the school that gets affected most by all of these realignments....TG1996 wrote:Wonder how that $6 million gets used? Is it put into the MAC operation budget, or distributed to member schools?

Put it in the endowment and you have funded ONE of the 85 football scholarships. Now to get 84 more people to do the same thing.gmartin wrote:Well if they decide that 6 mill over the 13 schools I know what I would do with the 400k.
