Greetings from Baylor!
First of all thank you to Grant for allowing me to register.
Now, I wanted extend a greeting from a very recent Baylor Alum.
I graduated BU last May and played trumpet in marching band and basketball band for 4 years. Due to a shortage of members being able to make the trip, I am getting to go again this year! This is my favorite time of the year, tournament time. Tournament travel for band members is a blast, if you don't mind missing a little class (or work for me). The only bad part of tourney travel is the down time. We travel with the team and arrive at our tourney sites 2 days early, then have another day off between the first and second games. In the past we've been to cities where we struggled to find entertainment (OKC, KC). So my question is, what is there to keep a group of 30 college kids entertained for a day? Keep in mind that Baylor does not allow alcohol consumption by students, even those over 21. Also, our per-diem is $35. Obviously we can spend more than that, but there will be students who only use the $35 given to them that day. What are some restaurants we shouldn't miss? And how should we fill our off days? I would say anything within a 1-1.5 hour radius is fair game.
Thanks for your input!
Ryan

Do you know what hotel you are in? A couple of them are 10-15 miles away from BG, so your options might be different. BG is a pretty typical small college town with a lot of bars and a few good restaurants and lots of good pizza places.
You are within 1.5 hours of Toledo, Ann arbor, Detroit, and almost Cleveland.

Hey!! Welcome to BG (a bit early).
So far as food goes..Avoid Fricker's unless you like gastrointestinal distress. Myle's pizza is awesome...campus Pollyeyes has great stuffed breadsticks. I'd comment on the bars...but I think you've covered that...

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

We have 2 off days, which of these would you recommend?factman wrote:.

Just a few suggestions. The weather in NW Ohio while you are here is to be 65-72, very unseasonal for mid March. I will let others weigh in, as this may not be everyone's choice, but about 20 min away we have one of the better Zoos in the US. We also have a very nice Art Museum. You could always drive 75 min north on Friday to watch our mens hockey team face Michigan in the CCHA hockey championships. Lol. I will let others fill you in on the restaurants within the area. Are you guys staying in Bowling Green or Perrysburg.
Re: Greetings from Baylor!
Depends on what you want. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum outside of Detroit, Toledo Art Museum, are all possibilities. Looks like the weather might be fairly mild for us in the 60's for this time of year, so even some outdoor activities might be worthwhile.

Hockey in Detroit would be a GREAT choice, if you have never been to a college hockey game!

Sorry, I don't know anything about our hotel arrangements, we only just found out where we were headed, if reservations have already been made, it hasn't been communicated to us yet. Is 65-72 warmer or colder than normal, we're from central Texas, it's already summer again here. 65 is jacket weather haha. A zoo would probably be a popular choice, which city?

Toledo Glass Museum is a must see... I know its celebrating a huge anniversary this year.
Henry Ford Museum
Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland
Lots of museums I know... not something everyone wants to do...
As a former local... restaurants in BG... The breadsticks are a must... I'd pass on Myles and eat at Pisanello's.... the best restaurants are in Toledo though.

Zoo is in Toledo.
Re: Greetings from Baylor!
The Zoo is in Toledo, 20 min north of Bowling Green, however you will see several monkeys on Sunday (Ohio State fans).
Re: Greetings from Baylor!
There will be people at each team hotel to help with things to do, directions etc.
