2 more years of mediocre uninspired bi-polar basketball. YEAH. Can someone email me when I should start paying attention to the team again. They are going to lose me over this crap.BGDrew wrote:He can't come out and say the season and the coach are a failure. It would make him, the university, the program, everyone look bad. He can say this:
"Our expectation is that we will must strive to contend for a MAC Championship! We are not there yet, but we have to get there soon!"
His quote sounded like "a17-14 record next season is where I'd like us to be and advancing to the second round of the MAC Tournament."
There's a difference, if I was coach Orr, i'd be smiling all the way to the bank right now! "Praised be the glory!"

It came across to me like he thinks this is about where a BG team should expect to be.ZuluWarrior wrote:He can say this:

Re: Directionally, Greg Christopher Doesn't Get It
I think the point was that Toledo finished below .500 and is pleased with the direction of the program, so us stating the same thing isn't that strange.gmartin wrote:And this article is in referece to Bowling Green or coach Orr where??? ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: Directionally, Greg Christopher Doesn't Get It
Toledo also does have reason to be optimistic. Toledo does have a good reason to feel confident in their program. Toledo's coach is a good coach. He saves his religious beliefs, whatever they may be, for sunday, and doesn't display them in his post game press conferences when all u want to hear is why the worst player on their team (Erger for BG) got 20 minutes of PT in a post season game. Toledo's coach has a clue; BG's coach doesn't have a clue. Toledo's AD has a clue; by his recent interaction with the media, BG's AD is TOTALLY clueless and should be dismissed from his position. So yes, this is a GREAT article example on what BG should strive for, cause Toledo is on the right path.

We are on the right path but we finished two games over .5. And our AD is incredible. Not that Christopher isn't....

H20, After the Gene Cross experiment and APR woes, Toledo has a right to be proud. The coach is growing the team and making lemonade. We have had FIVE years of "growing" the team. If Kowalczyk (you get it) has the same record 3 years from now, then there's trouble, but we just keep plodding along.

Wow wow wow. More sleepy Louis Orr basketball. What's next, a contract extension for getting a 16-16 team into a post season tournament in which teams fight to play road games to avoid losing money? Directionally, BG is walking a slow walk to nowhere.

Re: Directionally, Greg Christopher Doesn't Get It
The MAC is really a 3 team league with a lot of filler. OU, Kent and Akron have what I would consider "programs". They are competitive every year. Occasionally a UT, BG or Buffalo will rise to the top and win the MAC but lose in the tournament to one of those three (Miami used to be in that mix but they have dropped off a cliff). I don't see anybody coming out of the West to challenge that status unless its UT and we're two years away at least. BG seems to me to be in a position of being worse next year than this with the loss of Thomas and Brown who were your only long distance threats and Thomas was, IMO, by far your most versatile player. Not sure about your 2012 recruits but I don't see BG stepping up with Orr or any other coach for several years.HoopsFan wrote:H20, After the Gene Cross experiment and APR woes, Toledo has a right to be proud. Re: Directionally, Greg Christopher Doesn't Get It
BG would have already taken steps back had the majority of the MAC not been so awful. Look what Eastern Michigan did by taking the air out of the ball, playing a 2-3 zone, and asking horrid MAC teams to make shots on a consistent basis. That's BG. After the media got the usual 4 quotes out of Lou prior to last season, it was all about how we were going to play more man to man. Yet the same horrible defenders were trotted out to play the balk of the minutes. 2 weeks later, all zone, even while Buffalo dumps 3 points shots on our home court. Then you had the horrible management of the last minute of the Central game. 4 drunks at a downtown bar, could have managed that situation better. Our 2012 recruits won't hardly play. Just like no freshman hardly ever plays. My guess is the last scholarship gets used on a JUCO, someone who again won't hardly play. It will be Erger. It will be Chauncey. It will be ugly.
