Flip,
The coach's comments on Givens were, in essence, "perhaps the best hi-lite tape we've ever seen"....they only showed about 4-5 plays per kid, but I teased Falconfan1 that they'd "sped up" the tape on this kid...NOW... If he gets grades in order, and supposedly he is, we've got a PLAYER!
BTW, I don't think he ever actually WENT to Pitt...wound up at that prep school from my understanding,, and then came to BG, perhaps as early as 2nd semester last year, though that wasn't made clear.
What year is he classified as? Sophomore?
That's why I said it wasn't clear...Clawson said something to the effect that we'd signed him last year, but it wasn't announced... Could be he meant they signed him well after the Feb. signing date, and perhaps AFTER he'd not gone to Pitt too.... Just not sure.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
The unknown factor at tailback is Andre Givens. Givens originally signed a letter of intent with Pittsburgh. Instead of going to Pitt, Givens enrolled at Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y. where he saw limited playing time.
He is now enrolled at Bowling Green, but is not yet on the team, as he attempts to gain his eligibility.
"Hopefully, Andre Givens will get himself eligible," Clawson said. "He's in school taking classes. He has to pass so many credits with a certain GPA (grade-point average). If he does that he will become eligible in the fall and practice with us in fall camp."
Andre Givens has successfully completed his course work and will be eligible to play football for the Bowling Green Falcons, BG head coach Dave Clawson confirmed Thursday.
Givens was a highly-touted running back in the 2010 recruiting class after playing at Hubbard High School. He originally signed a national letter of intent with Pittsburgh in 2010. Instead of going to Pitt, Givens enrolled at Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y. He then came to Bowling Green for the 2011 fall semester.
In his last two seasons at Hubbard, Givens rushed for 2,358 yards and scored 39 touchdowns.
With Samuel, Martin, Hopgood and Pettigrew on hand already...we were already looking good at RB. I don't recall having this many good backs at one time....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Great news...I'm curious if one of the current RBs might be moved to slot WR or something. There's a lot of talent there that could benefit the team on other parts of the field.

Great news! And thanks for the info. As mentioned by others, I agree, I can't remember having this kind of talent in the backfield in awhile. Now, we need to be able to open some holes for them to run through. And I hop like heck one of them can become the much-needed back that we have lacked when it's third and one, or when we're on the goal line because we have become extremely predictable and very mediocre with our Wildcat package. It drives me nuts when we need six inches for a first down or TD and we're dancing around in the backfield two or three yards behind the line of scrimmage. I liked what we had in guys like Zeb Jackson and PJ Pope in the past but on paper, we look pretty solid at RB right now.
I've always thought of Hopgood as a power back and Samuel as a speed back. With Givens I think we've got a good blend of the two. Pettigrew and Martin both looked solid against UB and I bet they get some carries this year.
MarkL has spoken.
You may all now return to your daily lives.

Now we're talking...less than 3 months.
