The greatest stand tunes
*At The Hop (I could never direct that because i always got the horn swing wrong)
AND
*Shout - the song which was never the same twice. A JJackson specialty which I COULD conduct.
I was reflecting whilst listening to the '89 tape. We had a good sounding band in 89 and 90 as well as 91. 91 is where we sounded good AND played challenging music.

I miss Brass Roots. And of course Rocky Top. I think those were my favorite 'stand toons' other than Beer Barrel Polka.
Troy is working on getting the 89 tape cleaned up and on CD. I can't find my 92 tape but I do have 88-93 on tape for conversion to CD. I'll let you all know how they sound... I'm just wearing mine out! And I'd HATE to lose my 91 tape!

So special I can't stand it.
I have an extra 92 tape you can have. I don't listen to it much. Why? Because it sucks. Sparky had us overblowing everything.
The intonation. Mother of God the intonation.

So do I!!! I think we attempted playing that once my freshmen year and then it went away after that. We all hear how unclean Screamer is, Brass Roots is just the same with the whole trumpet part after the intro. That was a great song though! Can't Turn You Loose I like but only if you play it in under 50 seconds and still make it sound good!Ohiogal wrote:I miss Brass Roots.

Grant mentioned something around that for the record time on it. I would love to get it around 30 but we might lose some notes in there...Ohiogal wrote:I think the fastest we did Can't Turn You Lose was 27 seconds... I could be wrong... it may have been faster!

Yep, Stars and Stripes, '92. They were up front along with the piccs for the flute/picc soli at the end. They did the flash bulbs in the bell, or were going to. I forget if that worked out or not.
One of few of Sparks ideas I actually kind of liked.
Oh, and how much do you want for a copy of '91-'93 on CD? I'll pay whatever it takes to get it. Well, almost.

I'm sure that would have been a sight to see...tubas playing melodic parts is always something interesting!able1 wrote:Yep, Stars and Stripes, '92. They were up front along with the piccs for the flute/picc soli at the end.
I really miss the sections going around playing ditty's all over the stadium. Does anyone know when and why that stopped? It had to be before 2001 because I never got to do that!

We didn't do it when I marched in 1995 either. That would have been lots of fun.
