They pictures on the news and in the Blade are horrific. As bad as it is that 4 lives were lost, it could have been worse. There was another carload of BG students that just missed this car.

I know the daughter of the older woman driving the other car. This is definitely a sad day for their family as well. I haven't a clue why she was driving the wrong way, but at some point news may come out as to the reason.

The accident occurred 15 minutes after bars close. I believe Frickers is open until 2am. I don't know many 69 yr old women who drink but I have to say either alcohol was involved or simply a suicidal event. The reason I think the latter is because unless your drunk or this was suicide there are 7 u-turn areas between where she entered and the crash occurred. True your not suppose to use those areas but if I was heading the wrobg direction I would use them. Also, she could have exited at Rt 582. She was driving the wrong way for 6 miles. So to me this sounds like the act of a drunken lady or simply suicide.
How can you be so cruel and insensitive?

First, if she did get on at I-75/US-20 in Perrysburg, she could easily have been confused. The entrance to I-75N and the exit from I-75N are next to one another. She very easily could have gotten confused and entered the exit lane and driven southbound.

If the above is true as far as WHERE she got on the interstate at - alcohol does not have to be involved for someone to make the error. And suicide does not have to be involved. She was driving at a slow rate of speed.

1. Elderly drivers drive at a slow rate of speed
2. If she wanted to kill herself, she had numerous chances to drive into concrete bridge abutments before the accident

This was a tragic accident in not only did three young women lose their lives (and the pain and grief that their families are going to go through) but two other young women were seriously injured and the little old lady also lost her life (and her family and grandchildren have lost someone special to them).

This does not sound like the act of a drunken lady or of a suicide.

I think we tend to not look at 69 as elderly anymore but you are right-many people at that age should not be on the roads. A number of folks on our board mentioned that the lady well may have been confused and at that hour there is not so much traffic that you would be forced to stop. I thought of alcohol immediately due to the hour and prevalence of drivers under the influence but when I saw the driver's age other possibilities occurred to me. None of it matters really, just a lot of lives cut senselessly short.

Without a doubt any speculation into what caused this woman to drive the wrong way is insensitive and downright disgusting. My aunt in her mid-40s was once found driving the wrong way down a street, very slow and into a couple of cars. She wasn't drunk, she was going into a diabetic coma. Add in age, and I can think of at least 4 or 5 other medical reasons that could have played a role into causing this accident.

Any H20 is absolutely right, doesn't matter at this point, its a damn sad situation on top of a pretty sad week in Northern Ohio.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families and the BGSU community for this horrible and tragic loss. Words just seem so inadequate at this time.

I jumped to the wrong conclusion when I first heard about it when coming into the office this morning. Why were a bunch of college girls in a car on the interstate when the bars were closing? What in the world were they thinking? Only later did I think about the fact that spring break begins this afternoon and that maybe they were heading home for break. Then the idea that maybe they were off to the airport to get a flight to Cancun. Terrible thoughts with a knee-jerk reaction.

And now PGY adds in some medical conditions that show we know absolutely nothing at all. We need to wait for final reports.

God bless the families of those that passed and the of the injured as well as and members of Alphi Xi Delta in this time of sorrow.

Nice article. This whole thing has been a bit hard - I think because I have kids in college and because I knew a lot of Alpha Xi's when I was at BG and they were truly the best house on campus.

Agree, having kids the same age at BG is what made it hit home with me. That and the fact that I dearly care about a young lady from that sorority and was out of my mind worrying about her until I heard she was not in that car. Immediately after that I was just incredibly sad for her, her friends and their families.
