Rumor I heard at the Basketball Game

Post by falconman »

This is purely word of mouth but from a fairly reliable source. I heard that Mitch Crossley has signed an agent to pursure a career in the NFL. He will no longer be eligible to play for the orange and brown anymore. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?

I can do neither...logically it makes little sense since the deadline to decalre for this year's draft has passed and Crossley isn't on the list. Unless he plans on getting into the supplemental draft in the summer or going directly tot he CFL, hriing an agent now would be a mistake as it would make him ineligible for college ball with greatkly limitd options.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

The Sentinel did report that he was having academic issues and might not be eligible for next season. I doubt if Mitch Crossley is an NFL-Caliber player.

Though it still would not surprise me. Heck Temple had three guys declare themselves for the draft. I highly doubt they are all NFL caliber.

I've seen Crossley's name mentioned in some top 15 lists for next year's defensive ends, so some people think highly of him. He's always had a ton of talent, but it seems like he only flips the switch on when he has to. Much too inconsistent for my liking. I hope he didn't make the mistake of signing with an agent, he could really use another year of competition and growth on the field and, more importantly, in the classroom.

What I heard was that he signed this agent a couple of weeks ago.
Granted he's a little small in the weight department, what the scout's like is that he's 6'3" and he has room to get wider because of his height. Now the question is if he gets bigger can he keep his speed?

If this is true, and I hope it is not, that is a major blow to our defensive line. As a college sports fan, I hate when early departures (for various reasons) happen to my teams.

I can understand when a player who has top potential goes. The immediate financial reward can't be compared. These mid-level guys are different--they're throwing away a chance for an education for nothing.

As for Crossley's draft potential, generally a player has to be absolutely dominant in the MAC to play in the NFL, and I don't think he's hit that level.

Right, he has shown flashes of brilliance but for every great game he has had, there has been another where he was no where to be found. His numbers from last season are not too staggering, this really would be a big mistake. The guy has NFL talent but he is not there yet.

yeah, it's true...mitch signing with an agent. i was with the person he called and told when he was leaving. he made the decision before the deadline, as far as actually signing and what not in time i'm not sure. .

Good luck to Mitch. I think he's making a huge mistake. I don't think he could even become a poor man's Jason Taylor or Jason Babin in the NFL, but time will tell. This is a huge opportunity for some of the younger guys to step up and play a big role next year.

Here is a link to a British NFL site of all places, that lists players in the draft: Mitch is on it

Interesting to see TJ Carswell's name under the top prospects at safety.

Matt Leinart is listed under top prospects at QB, so I'm not sure that list is completely accurate.
