Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
It's interesting how many people think the Bengals need to upgrade their pass rush and never mention middle linebacker.
Carlos Dunlap is a beast on one side and Micheal Johnson is a good end on the other. Rey Maualuga has not been a good linebacker with the Bengals, he has been injured, has a hard time getting off blocks and has been arrested multiple times, all while playing behind good tackles. If the Bengals are going to go defense and Gilmore is gone I would like to see them get Dont'a Hightower, especially since it seems like the Ravens covet him to replace Ray Lewis.

Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
Gilmore at 7 is a reach....I don't think the Vikings will go DB at 3 and I think Detroit is looking to move up to get Kirkpatrick. They passed on getting Samuel from Philly...trading late round picks fr proven starters is Martin Mayhew specialty...not pursung that deal is a sign that they feel they can get a DB early.
My fear is that Gilmore at 7...and I've seen other mocks that make that pick...will start a run on DB's. The Lions will then be forced to choose between reaching for a round 2 talent at 23, overpaying to move up or drafting one of the second rung LT's to push Cherilus at RT and eventually take over LT.
Cliff Averil is franchised and KVB is getting old, so DE is also a need...but...only one of the 3 starters at LB is signed beyond this year and the depth took a hit when Carpenter left. Do not be suprised if Detroit takes Hightower at 23 to solidify LB.

As a big Ravens fan, I love the pick of Shea McLellin in the first round. Having a talented guy at LB with the Boise State work ethic would be huge. However, the following quote nearly brought a tear to my eye: " The sun is also getting ready to set on Ray Lewis' career"

I really hope that #22 prediction is wrong. Why would we draft this QB? Seriously?

Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
I've seen Kiper and McShay say the same thing. The top QB's will be gone within the first 5 picks leaving Wheaten, so he's next on the board for every other team. So, if the Browns want him they may have to reach a little bit.footballguy51 wrote:I really hope that #22 prediction is wrong. Why would we draft this QB? Seriously?
Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
Because they're the freaking Browns and they constantly screw up the QB position. Conventional wisdom says you pounce as soon as you find a QB worthy of a top draft grade. Not the Browns. They're always trying to find VALUE out of QB. In Weeden's case he's value because he'll turn 38 before he develops into an NFL QB. McCoy, Frye, and Quinn were all value because they couldn't throw a football. DA was value because he was borderline retarded. etc, etc, etc..Falcon137 wrote:I've seen Kiper and McShay say the same thing. Bottom line: IF you don't like Tannehill don't draft an effing QB this year. You're gonna suck ass next year anyways so you'll be in position to make a move for one of the top talents next year. It's absolutely insane to spend a first round draft pick on a 29 year old PROJECT QB.
I especially love that they compound their stupidity of taking a 29 year old QB in this mock by taking a WR who fits the WCO about as well as I do. If you're gonna send him down field and let him battle for the ball I think Jeffrey may be okay, but no way does he fit in the Browns' short passing system.

Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
If they truly want to take a QB, take a QB in the 5th or 6th round where you aren't hurt if they don't pan out. I would take Harnish from NIU, Lindley from SDSU, or Corp from Richmond. Their top two picks need to be Richardson and then a receiver. Clearly the only two QBs that are ready to start day 1 in this draft are Luck and RG3, so don't blow a top pick on a whim. Get weapons. Richardson should open up the field for a vertical passing game, or a passing game in general, so it may be interesting to see how McCoy does with that. Clearly the three quarterbacks on the roster currently aren't suited to operate a deep threat offense, but it would be interesting to attempt to let the run open up the passing game.hammb wrote:Because they're the freaking Browns and they constantly screw up the QB position. I'm not convinced that Tannehill wouldn't come in and immediately be better than McCoy. My question is whether he has what it takes mentally to become a franchise caliber QB. If he does, I'd take him in the top 5 and not look back. He's the only player in this draft that could possibly turn this franchise around.footballguy51 wrote:If they truly want to take a QB, take a QB in the 5th or 6th round where you aren't hurt if they don't pan out. However, if Tannehill isn't that guy (and indications are that he's not) I would make my #1 priority a trade back. There isn't anybody that I want at #4, so if I could possibly rape another team for a 2013 high pick I'd do it in a heartbeat. And contrary to most Browns fans I wouldn't at all be devastated to drop back 10-20 spots in the first round...I just don't think there is value at the top of this draft (which is exactly why I doubt we'll find an offer).
If we are stuck making a pick at #4 I'd rank them:
1. Richardson
2. Blackmon
3. Perry -- Yeah, I still don't know why he's not ranked in the top 10.

I think I would've stayed at four and taken Blackmon

Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
I still don't get why you call him a project. He is obviously more mature than any of the other QBs. I'd say he is probably more ready to start next year than any QB not named Luck. I like getting Weeden, but I thought 37 was the spot to get him. I was hoping for a RT there at 22 when Kalil had been the only OL picked to that point.hammb wrote:Falcon137 wrote:footballguy51 wrote:It's absolutely insane to spend a first round draft pick on a 29 year old PROJECT QB.
Looking like there should be a quality OT still there at 37 now. Or maybe Hill or Randle.

Never thought Riley Reiff would be there at 23 for the Lions....love it, love it, love it. If Josh Robinson is there in round 2...I'll be giddy!!

Re: Sideline Scouting Seven Round Mock
I was really hoping for Reiff at #22, but Heckert obviously really likes the old guy. We have a better team now than we did 3 hours ago. though. I'm now thinking 2-14 is a possibility.

Were other teams talking to the Vikings about trading up to #3 for Richardson? I'm trying to figure out why picking before Minnesota was important when they didn't want Richardson.
