Now Jennifer has 2 scholarships to allocate if she chooses. Kaila's brother plays for IU & having both in the same school will make it easier on their folks. DK if she will sit another year & lose a year. Was Brandi her lead recruiter?? (Thanks Jane) We dk all the behind the scenes stuff. Jennifer is doing it all herself. Give her a chance to put her cards on the table. We also lost a kid to Gulf Coast. I'll take who's left, give them a chance to fill the spots & play. How about 5' 11' post, 6'1'' power forward, 5'11'' wing, 6' 1' wing/guard & 5'8' point as our next team? That was our 2006/07 Sweet Sixteen team. Find a measuring stick for heart.

Funny, but I thought that Hulls would be the possible "logical" kid to leave.... Don't know how NCAA will handle this, but it seems to me she still SHOULD have to sit out a year, despite missing this past season... was looking forward to seeing her play for us since I saw her beat the guys in the 3pt competition at Midnite madness last year. Outstanding shooter!

As to "losing" out on the 6'3" C, it just shows how hard it is for "mid majors" to recruit possible "elite" players... Curt might have gotten her to come to BG, but seems a lot easier (for him) due to being at IU.

She is a D 1 to D 1 transfer. She sits out a year. Next game would be late Nov 2013, About 33 months between actual games which is a long long time. I wish her well. This is an unusual situation as highlighted above. Brother. Grandpa. Dad. Hometown. Huge family connection. Old coach gets job in hometown. Very unusual.

It's basically what I thought too....she sits "another" year, even though probably can practice with the team...but it's a heck of a long time between actual games.

She should be able to get an extra year from the NCAA due to her knee injury.

Certainly she will be able to practice and be a part of all team activities. And be a key team member in that sense.

An extra year of eligibility for the knee injury? Not so sure. She chose to transfer; her injury did NOT cost her a year of eligibility. That is her choice. She would have completed a normal four year career at BG had she chosen to stay. The injury did not cost her a year of eligibility; her decision to change D 1 schools did that. But again, very unusual situation. I wish her all the best. Very nice young woman and a fine player.

I believe that's only true for an "incoming" player, not someone who's been on the team for a year, though not able to play.

She can claim that sure. But she still would have had 4 years of eligiblity left if she would have stayed at BG. As a Division 1 athlete, you have 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibilty. That 5 year period begins the day you enroll full time at a four year institution. Certainly you sometimes see the NCAA grant a 6th year. But that normally only happens when the athlete has more than one major injury and sat out multiple full seasons. And those are not always granted.

From reading the NCAA rules, convoluted as they are, it certainly looks like Kaila will have to sit another year and not play. Practice, yes. Play in games, no.

The rules aren't as set as that...Glenn Stanley..the LB who tore it up here for part of one season...was given an extra year because he missed part of that first season for "family issues". I have no earthly idea if he was ever able to use it, but one of the things that made him attractive enough for Lane Kiffin to try and sign him at USC was the "give back" of that one year and he actually was healthy and saw the field here.

I have no idea if she can get a waiver or not to play immediately and frankly, the NCAA rules are byzantine enough that I have no interest in checking, but I'd be stunned if she didn't get an extra year for an injury.
