Cedar Point shuts down the WildCat!

Wow...it's been going for 33 years!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."
~~USCHO Poster
"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Wildcat goes back longer than 33 years...I remember it being there when I was an 8th grader in 1975

I was going to say that, too. It was always right next to the Jumbo Jet, which was always broken down.

Eh, no BiG deal to me. I always pass it by on my way to the greatest coaster on the face of the earth, The Millennium Force. I think I rode it, maybe, 3 times in my life.

Millenium Force? Have to say it's not even close to the best coaster in that park, let alone the face of the earth!

Of course the fact that you can even debate about stuff like that is why Cedar Point is so awesome :)

As a former Cedar Point employee it's always sad when a historic ride has to be shut down. I would argue before they added seat dividers Blue Streak was the best roller coaster in the park followed by seat 1-3 on Magnum XL-200.

Just a reminder: it's Millennium, not Millenium

What is the best coaster in the park? Magnum is still a killer coaster and I like the Dragster but for my $, nothin beats the Force. That first hill along the lake, at night? Forget it. CP is THEE best park. Period.

I worked there for 8 years. My favorite is Dragster followed by Maverick. Never been a fan of Millenium Force though it is still very popular 12 years later.

In my opinion they are in need of really good ride soon as there are parks that have caught up to them and a couple you could argue have passed them.

Yeah, you're all right (about Jumbo Jet downtime too). Technically Cedar Point had two Wildcats. They were the same ride model. Right after Cedar Point purchased Valleyfair in Minnesota, they relocated the first CP Wildcat to that park where it ran until the late 90's. CP got a brand new one to replace it in '79, which is the one being retired now.

Focusing only on thrill rides was one of the biggest mistakes of the Kinzel era. Instead the new leadership has realized families spend much more money.

At the Prime Outlets mall in Orlando (off of I-4 by the Crossroads) there's a virtual rollercoaster ride...it's the Blue Streak from Cedar Point.
I always thought that was cool for some reason...

To me the top 3 coasters @ CP are Magnum, Maverick, and Raptor in that order.

When it was built Mean Streak was my favorite in the park, but man has that ride deteriorated. It's a shell of its former self.

Blue Streak & Millennium duke it out for the #4 & 5 spots in my mind. I'm inclined to give the edge to Blue Streak, personally, just because it's the only decent wooden coaster at CP (due to Mean Streak's decline)...and it is a ride that is enjoyable for the duration.

Millennium has always been a rather bland coaster in my mind. The first hill is amazing, but beyond that it's almost boring. The smaller hills don't have nearly the airtime of Magnum, or even Blue Streak, and the "overbanked turns" are just a bunch over hyped blah. It's a good ride, but to me it just doesn't deliver throughout the the course the way some of the other coasters at CP do.

I had a fear of heights...still do a tiny bit. Any way...when my wife and I were first dating in...1990..we hit Cedar Point with a bunch of her friends. First thing we do is get in line for the Magnum. I want no part of that thing...but I didn't want to look like a pussy in front of my girlfriend and her dumbass friends, so...I get on it. I'm looking straaight down at my feet as we make that loooooong climb....she's aware of my phobia and is laughing her ass off. I look up in time to see Canada before we take that terrifying first drop.

It was awesome....rode every coaster in the park after that. The fricking magnum cured me....

Yeah, Raptor kicks tail...and Maverick is cool. The Blue Streak is a classic. The Mean Streak...I agree. I used to LOVE that coaster but man it beats the s**t outta ya these days.

I'll stick with the Millennium Force as my fave. I can't agree it's boring...anything but. The sheer speed and drop of the first hill rocks and it is almost 3 min long.

BTW, if you wanna ride some very good wooden coasters, head over to Kennywood in Pittsburgh. KW isn't as ritzy as CP but still a very good park. The Racer, Jack Rabbit and Thunderbolt are all cool wooden coasters. The Phantom's Revenge is a steel coaster that goes right down the side of a cliff...way cool. They also have a new steel one called Sky Rocke...Rocke...you know. It is very similar to Maverick.

I definitely need to check out Kennywood. I LOVE wooden coasters and it's a niche that Cedar Point really doesn't embrace. I haven't been there in a long time but I think I'll be hitting King's Island this year...looking forward to the Beast.

We're fortunate to have some good roller coaster parks in daytrip range. An the admission prices are FAR less than what you pay for inferior parks in Orlando, etc.
