Re: Sporting News ranks the MAC coaches
FWIW ... I put SportingNews about the same level as Bleacher Report. They try to be legitimate but come off as a Yahoo! sports wannabe. So I'm not surprised at all in their lack of research into the circumstances of the 2010 season and this label Claws on as "falling."

How can his stock be falling, yet they acknowledge that we showed improvement last year?

Wondering what the UMass coach has or hasn't done to rank 13th out of 13. Seems like he should get one game before being ranked dead last.
Re: Sporting News ranks the MAC coaches
My wife works with the sister of the Kent State coach. Dr. Hazell teaches Anatomy & Physiology at a university in the Philadelphia area. I hope KSU wins all their games except for the one against BGSU. I predict that time will show that Darrell Hazell will not be outsmarted when it comes to coaching football.
Re: Sporting News ranks the MAC coaches
Until he puts together a real good year here (9-3 or better in my opinion) he deserves to be ranked in the bottom half of the coaches. I hope this is that year.
Re: Sporting News ranks the MAC coaches
Two quick thoughts.
1) There was a time when The Sporting News was one of THE most important sports publications in the country, in particular when it came to MLB coverage.
2) Seems pretty sad that Bowden has never coached a game for a MAC team, yet is the third-best coach in the conference.

Interesting. They could be easily looking at two non conference losses, even if they were Top 25 caliber. So for this to be a 'real good year' for Clawson, the team would have to go 9-1 in the remaining 10 games?kdog27 wrote:Until he puts together a real good year here (9-3 or better in my opinion) he deserves to be ranked in the bottom half of the coaches. With what he has returning, yes absolutely. Excuse time is over. Keep in mind I would be OK with a 10-4 that includes a MAC Championship or probably any variation that includes a MACC. If they go 7-5 this year I will consider that pretty lousy for the talent and depth he has developed.AyZiggy97 wrote:Interesting. OU and Toledo are down a bit from last year...we could upset either one or both. Kent beat us last year...maybe they beat us this year. The consensus here seems to be @ 8-4. I think a range of 10-2 to 7-5 is probable with 8-4 the most likely, 9-3 slightly more possible and 10-2 and 7-5 are equally unlikely.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
