What he did not tell you was the colors of the tapered stripe are Scarlet and Gray. This is an effort to get more students to attend games.

I've always preferred a striped tapir to a tapered stripe. . .

You don't, but it is. It would be similar if Apple began packaging their products in black boxes.
No, it would be more like when Apple turned their Apple logo 180 degrees on their laptops so that they would be right side up when an on looker walked in to Starbucks to see the user on their Mac.

I guess I am alone on here but I love the look of the helmet. But it looks very much like last year's to me (which I also loved). What exactly changed on it? Is it just a more flat color of orange? I prefer a solid crown with no stripes, but I love the logo with went with last year (and still have - thankfully!) with the BG and Falcon head, and I also love the brown face mask.

But does Apple do this every year?

No.

BG has, without question, a relatively weak brand in IA athletics. If you want to build and promote a brand you define the marketing base and then hold it. You don't tweak unless it's not working. You don't know it's not working in a single year. So, these tweak are aggressive [Apple switching to black boxes] when you are building a brand and BG's brand is nowhere near "established" in the grand scheme of things. I welcome anyone who would counter that statement.

Oregon first built their brand in 2000 going to a green helmet with black. It was a hit. Bowl games helped. It wasn't until five years or so later Nike started cladding them in ugly. They did not build a brand on random variation.

I agree, hammb. The LT logo was awesome on par with Apple, ATT, Cisco, and Nike.

Not its not. It would be like changing a minute detail in the packaging but keeping the coloring, logo and functionality exactly the same. I don't mind minor chanes at all. I love the Brown unis. They are the only jersey I have ever considered buying.
Minor changes in a weak brand are amplified. Thems the facts. I agree. I would love to see more brown uniforms.....but KEEP them instead of switching to all orange then all white, then white and orange then orange and white then.......

Now that BGSU_SID confirmed that the stripe will be the same, the only changes are the different shade of orange and the logo is bigger. All I know is come December I want the team wearing those helmets to be winning the MAC Championship in Detroit

I love the helmet. I thought the helmet we had last year was by far the best looking one we've ever had, and the changes this year are minor, but make it even better. I ordered a couple of the new mini ones online:

I see your point if they kept changing the logo, but just taking away the stripe I don't think is a big deal. I'm not in marketing but my degree is pretty close so I will bow to anyone who knows more for sure, and it sounds like you do. For what its worth the 2 best logos that I have ever seen related to BG are

1. https://svpply.com/item/871908/HOMAGE_B ... reen_State

There is a better one with the bird with bigger legs I cant find

and

2. http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/2010/10/ ... reat-team/

The logo in the middle of the court in the second picture is badass and classic. I would love to make tshirts of it but have no idea where I would start.

I would buy anything with those on it and I think they are both fan friendly. I also love the Brown jersey.

Interesting tidbit I read on the Uni Watch blog today, wonder just how true it is/what it will look like if it does come to pass:
… “We had our helmet fitting at the Toledo-area high school where I coach,” says Jacob Kubuske. “I was talking to the local Riddell representative, and while he was showing me his schedule I saw he had an appointment coming up at Bowling Green. As I mentioned the new matte orange BGSU helmets I’d just seen on Uni Watch, he went on to mention that BGSU will also debut a new white helmet at some point this year. He said it’s to keep up with all the other schools doing it.” …
I won't bother linking to the full post, as that is the only BG-relevant portion of it.

Very interesting. I like the idea but ONLY as a secondary helmet to the orange one. I don't mind if we come up with other colors as alternatives, but I hope we always keep orange as the primary one. I am not a big fan of white helmets, but I think I would look cool once in awhile. Someone on here once posted a picture of Greg Christopher's office with a white BG helmet in it. Anyone have that image?

White helmet, brown jerseys. That would be a nice alternate set of uniforms.
